OK. I'm new to the board and love the game. My issue is that until I found this place, I had no real story to go by. I figure that an online "Encyclopedia Galactica (Quadrantica?)" could help. I know I'm not the only one who would love to see that and I would love to build one. But I have no idea where to find the "canon" throughout this board. Cory, I beg permission as a lowly independent to begin this epic work. And I humbly ask the aid of my fellow traders to aid me in finding every datacube of history possible.
Perhaps call it "Encyclopedia Exodus"?
"Encyclopedia Templari"?
"The Grand History of the Quadrant"! Lol

I've been reading it and its really my inspiration. But I'm envisioning a bit more... Lineages for the houses, who and what the templars are, even shipwrights for the quadrants ships (this could give a reason for certain ships being outside the ship designer rules) and who came up with faction shipbuilding methods. When I compare it to the Encyclopedia Galactica I mean it. And lurker's work will definitely make that easier.

Are you fishing around for making some fanfiction? Those are the kind of questions I asked wen I was researching. IIRC, the brothers adapt the stories for their games from tabletop games that they played when younger. I'm guessing its a combination of not having as much time as they would like to write up such an encyclopedically immersive amount of fluff and topics and questions that never came up that they'll fill in whenever.
While it can be bothersome for someone new to the "Shalunverse", once you do get a general feel for the material you can have enough confidence to produce something that is noncanon and yet you feel captures the flavor of the material. And who knows- I've told them a few times, they should have no trouble gaining ideas from fanfiction and even plain old forum discussions. All of their game universes are like that for the most part. Heroes of Steel however, I think they are working with a much more specific setting and story.

Not really big on fan fiction... This kind of work is the most i've ever considerwd playing in someone else's backyard. I like the idea of it because it gives me a way to be part of the world, let's me learn enough to immerse completely in the game, and I can see this becoming a classic in its own right. I've seen that the info is mostly there for the very recent past, and the factions a little longer, but its all over the boards and lurker gives a general work... Who knows? A detailed encyclopedia and timeline could be useful to the brothers to build more storyline without oopses and the fanfic guys could have a solid reference. At least as solid as "known history" can be.
Then again, any "oopses" could be a result of a recent capture of datacubes from a xeno or narvidian ship...

I have a document that I compiled after searching the boards for all kinds of history. That's what I used to create the history I have so far. I have to say though that I don't think there is a detailed history to uncover. There are very few clues to individuals and families. Even the information on Ardok Shalun is pretty sparse. There's a few nuggets here and there such as that the planet Remcoole is named after an assassin. There is also some bits about various Thulun leaders and their roles in Battles and different events.
One thing to do would be to compile a list of planets and current princes in the game. If you could get the current families then you might be able to work back a little ways.

A place to start! The amount of independent planets could make that a big task itself... But I assume that they're in such a state of flux that information on them is iffy at best anyway. If only we had the hours in the day  We'd love to get it all down into a great form and share. So much lore from the pen & paper RPG Star's Edge. Star Traders 4X and Star Traders 2 will help us find the time to share more of the history, as you'll be playing the next chapters of the story. |

Remcoole is also listed so I figure that it was the name of the capital city. |

All you guys have to do is drop tidbits and the EG will have them. Imagine it this way... I'm an Indy, I've been to most worlds, and from spice hall to palace world to world, I've learned a piece here and a piece there. I'm indistinguishable from a thousand other smugglers, but a smuggler has no legacy. Famous smugglers die, or else become wandering merchants. But an archivist that writes the history of the quadrant? That's a legacy even a smuggler can go straight for! And dayan, thanks for the tip! A few places to start. Zu Chong-Zi was a famous mathematician and hyperspace theorist. Also a play on the name of a famous human from Earth, but not really intended as a reference.
Remcoole is named after a famous House Assassin who operated during the early phases of the Guild Wars.
