As I'm hacking around, creating a matrix map, I've noticed that in the output from the INFO button, for each server are two values, System Rating and System Level.
System Rating seems to be in the range of 1-9. It may be 2-9, I don't see any 1s on my map, but I didn't start recording them from the beginning, so I don't have values for every host at the moment.
System Level seems to be Green, Gold, Orange, or Red.
It looks like the rating may be a difficulty classification. I'm seeing 2s on the data terminal hosts, and higher numbers farther into the 'net. But it's not consistant, I see SynComA4 has an 8, while SynComA5 (probably sitting in the next rack), has only a 3.
I'd guess System Level is an alert level, based on the colors. Most greens I'm seeing are data terminals, but some of them are as high as red. Other (non terminal) hosts seem to be gold, orange, or red. I haven't been to every host yet, so it's hard to draw any conclusions, but it seems fairly random so far. I haven't noticed any changing after I steal data, but I haven't been systematic about looking for changes. I'm mainly mapping at the moment, and haven't been paying a whole lot of attention to details of hosts that I've already mapped.
Does anyone know any more about these?

Yeah, they're difficulty classifications - if I remember correctly, it goes Green-Orange-Red-Gold in ascending order of difficulty. Can't remember how the Ratings work, so I'll help out with the difficulty mapping as soon as I find a new Android emulator (Bluestacks has taken to asking me to install sponsored apps, or pay them $2 a month).
EDIT: I think you're right about Ratings going from 2-9, as I just hit Harbor District (the entry node) and it's 2, then following the trail to Potion and the Lab it went first to 3, then jumped to 6 at the NetTel, then back to 3 at Potion and the Lab itself. They were all Orange though, so my first thought is that it's Faction-based (I remember seeing some Gold Mars nodes). I'll keep looking.
EDIT 2: Harbor Net's Red-7, with everything around it being Orange. Took me by surprise.

1) System Rating is a baseline (2-13 at the moment) that is set for the target number for your Hacking saves. It is modified based on what you are trying to do, programs loaded, turns on the host, etc, but that is a general indicator of the difficulty of Hacking here. 2) System Level is either Green, Orange, Red, Black, or Gold. Systems at Red and above can cause you HP damage if you are crashed off the system while hacking. Orange and above can cause you MP damage if you are crashed off the system. Green does not cause damage.

You should definitely add that and the hacking armor info to the game manual.
I've hacked a few hundred times and didn't know these.

loving how much awesome work you have done to make CK even more fun.
In relation to this thread, does my Computers rating add to my "plant device" mission success rolls when using "hack terminal"?
Thanks again for making my favorite game of yours so much better. literally every aspect I love is so much better.

beverage - thanks, we've been working really hard to improve CK and I am glad you see it paying off! Please leave us a review or update your review on your market! People need to hear about how much it has improved! Your Computer's stats will help with your Hacking missions, but will not assist in Plant device.

This threads got me wondering where the most up-to-date matrix map is. I'm using @johndoersmith's, but it doesn't have security ratings etc. and often times the host names are not quite right.

I'll get to work - I'm free for about 2 months, so I've got time to go on a Net run. How do I edit text in an SVG file (John Doe's map is excellent, so I've been using that, but I've never worked with that kind of file before)?

I haven't figured out anything for editing SVG's. If I had infinite time I would consider transferring it all over to a Google Drawing, since they can be easily shared and could even be transferred to another player to edit if you got tired of it. Unfortunately that's not an option for me now. It also might not work super well with such a complex map. It seems like @johndoersmith is MIA now. It would be interesting to know what he used.
