So, which is it for you and why? I figured everyone could put down two. I will vote tomorrow after a few replies come in

Okay.... Well it looks like we have some votes. But no descriptions as to why!
So I'll start off:
I like star trader and Spy.
I enjoy that they both start with minimal stats, but good skills. Makes it easy to survive initially. Also allows a good deal of customization and adaptability depending on how good/bad the faction conflicts go.
I REALLY like the spy's abilities. I routinely do surveillance because records and rep are nice to have, not to mention it brings in a decent bit of change. I try to always hit my 1k per week minimum, excluding things like shortages and surpluses. The spy can usually accomplish this for me with records. The rep bonus is just icing on the cake.
As for the Star Trader, I like the idea of cheaper ships and upgrades. I hate each time I don't have enough to get that Royal class, only to never be able to find it again when I DO have the money. Some characters go through a ton of ships, some don't, so his abilities are hit and miss. Same can go for others like bounty hunters and military officers (Who have to strictly rely on doing missions... It's hard to find missions that work well inside/outside of conflicts at times though...)
Definite runners up are probably bounty hunter/officer. Haven't tried my hand at pirating though. Trade war might be cool... As for the others, like Captain, with morale loss, I don't actually know what that does...

I like the explorer for the survival skills, and the star trader for his all around balance.
And simply because i have had the best results with them.

are you people crazy BOUNTY HUNTERS cool concept. Problem: better than military officer? Not really. Rank costs more than death warrants. Same contract ability though. Unless I am missing something. Granted, getting to say you are a Bounty Hunter is fairly awesome.

Military Officer. Cadar Admiral. I mean, seriously. Why even debate this? Do you WANT so Cadar torps up the fuel ignition chamber?

Pirate was my number 1, then Smuggler just stole the top spot. I guess I have a knack on trying how much I can get away with before it all catches up to me stuff.
I was able to unlock a lot of stuff as pirate. But squeezing what I can out of a smuggler is also fun stuff.
Power corrupts...but it's fun.
I'm basically an independent dressed in shiny faction uniform. You can whine about me stripping your faction smugglers but I'm sure your selective amnesia will kick in when I sell those same artifacts back to you to resell.
Don't worry, when I get bored I will do some bounty hunting too. But don't let me find out that those independents that we just torched are actually syndicates in disguised, coz those negative reps come with a price tag. The collector is knocking and you better open up your palace, prince, and pay your protection dues, and don't make a scene.
As long as your business does not interfere with my business, we're squared.
All those rumors about how when someone gets too powerful they make their own law? It wasn't rumor for me, it was my aspiration. You should have never told me about it, so I would not have known it was all possible.
And remember all those trade embargoes and spy battle? Yeah, I did that.
Dance my little marionettes. Amuse me.

I have been playing up pirate some lately, but other than trade wars it isn't much of a boon to me.
My question for everyone is, as a bounty hunter, what is better about it over the military officer who gets the same ability, and better yet cheaper rank is worth more than cheap death warrants unless you are constantly losing them...
Is it just the title that makes it fun?

Bounty Hunter requires less hits on the Surveillance button to lock on, gets a discount on death warrants. The Military Officer also cannot stack the Predator Array the same way the BH can. Might be a missing balance issue here tho, I'm not sure I like it after I crunched the numbers.

I so want to understand more of the details about this.
For example: Initially I thought you needed two hits (of surveillance) to get target information. But my bounty-hunters routinely get it in one hit.
Then you go an mention things like stacking pradator and bounty-hunter bonuses, and how military officers are slightly different . . . ..
Well, let's just say I wish I had more non-bounty-hunter characters with a predator array to test with, because I'm feeling a little ignorant.

I'm a little curious about the Predator thing too. I picked one up and I think I've only had it fail once maybe if that (as a Zealot).
