Military Officers Require 2 Hit. Bounty Hunters Require 1 Hit. Predator Requires 2 Hits. If Predator Hits > Class Hits, Apply Alternate Bonus Schedule. +Stealth, +Surv. Bonus
So in that way the BH gets a stacking result (needs 1 hit, gets more hits with array.)

Explorer: I'm not big on contracts and explorers let me get the cash I need early on, while letting me do other things like surveillance later on when I'm low on crew. Without the hassle of contracts. Pirate: I have to say I am biased with Pirate, since they have been the only combat class I've used on the higher difficulties(still trying to get spy). It lets me play the trade war game and 9 times out of 10 when I load up on other peoples stuff it does not get stolen out from under me while I wait for a shortage. I've still very new to the game(started end of Julyish) and learning more every day. Like how today I learned never to name my captain Peachs

I use Caches extensively to ensure that my Merchant can surrender constantly without serious loss.
Instead of trying to hold the cargo in the ship where it will cause trouble (more encounters, harder landing, ect) keep it hidden on a planet until you need it.

I should be entitled to the profession of archaeologist for digging out such ancient posts. Best results so far I got with Pirate and Captain, both on Impossible. For roleplaying aspects I have a soft spot for the Zealot, but I could not raise one past Lvl. 3 above crazy. Maybe Bounty Hunter would also suit my playstyle, haven't tried yet. The Merchant and Smuggler are hard to play. The Star Trader is completely useless, if I want a jack in all trades I resort to the Captain.

Almost all my captains have been military officers for Cadar. It doesn't come better than that.

You know, I've never actually spent much time playing a military officer. Of all the hundreds of captains I have created, I think I only had 2 military officers among them. I guess my playing style is less aggressive than a MO would be able to cope with. I'm closest to a Chaotic-Good or Neutral-Good playing style. Ah - D&D ... good times

The classes I like Pirate and Zealot get me killed very quickly thus I vote for what I'm good at.
Merchant: I use the negotiate to charm factions out of trade permits. Once most people like me, I've made level 10 and have a decent ship I prey on the remaining two factions. Also good for running contracts as you aren't even tempted to get into a fight.
Captain: Trains easily and is flexible. Discount in pardons valuable as I'm usually in disgrace with someone.
