No. You set yourself some sort of challenge, and then, well if you are very successful your character becomes too powerful to be a lot of fun to play. So you roll up a different one, and set yourself a different challenge ...

The "Retirement" idea is interesting...
There could be a number of events that could let a dialogue pop up... If the user selects "Yes", he gets thrown to the hone screen, his retired knight gets a prefix saying he's retired (Although that, AFAIK, requires a new row in the db... And they're hardlocked, if I remember correctly, so...) ... Damn.
Edit: The knight just gets deleted.
And the actions triggering the popup could be... Climbed all ladders to the top, or smth similar...

I find it useful to have my immortals around, sometimes. For instance, they have tons of cash. So if I quickly want to experience some new expensive implant which just went into the game, I just send one of them to the appropriate cyberware store.
