Since I brought it up and feel like sharing.... Here is a screenshot of my current jaunt out into the upper reaches of the milky way in Elite: Dangerous. It's nothing really of note, just my Asp after scanning a metal rich planet orbiting a high intensity K class star. It's ultra high-res, so if you click it you can go see the full size version. Another snap is my Asp rounding a rocky moon with its parent class 1 gas giant in the background. Man, Elite is such a pretty game.

My LG G3 + my desktop computer and, if you want to test low-spec computers, I can use my HP Stream which is my work computer. It's basically a workstation, but it is good enough to play HoS.
Also, I always alpha test for the brothers!

I am VERY interested in playing this game, but I'm so busy lately. I have to set up my forums so that I can get asked questions and stuff. rabid I'd highly recommend E:D but, there is one big caveat. You need to sink a lot of time into it to start experiencing everything. I've been playing for around 60 hours (according to STEAM) and am a solid mid-tier player. I don't have enough credits to get high tier ships but have enough to dabble in whatever I want to do. The fact that the devs seem to be working at expanding and adding to the current game is really cream on the cake because, as it is now, it's a fun sandbox.

I love early game in most 4Xs, and ST 4X is no different. So, for me, a true fist-pump moment is when I just produce my first custom built defensive vessel. Why? Well, I always try to balance expansion with military but my military is low priority in the early game. Usually I end up getting caught a little flat footed if I push too far into xeno territory and have to rush to get something a little more capable than my templar cruisers on the lines. Holding the xeno back for the 10+ turns I need to produce and move some screen fighters into position can get hairy and more than one colony has been permanently scarred due to this.
We humans are resilient, though, and that scarred colony serves as a reminder on why we fight!

fallen - haven't gotten a chance to really dive into the story since my nephew and niece are over at the house right now, but I gotta say that so far it's pretty interesting. There are some rough edges to the writing but, on the whole, it's pulling me in. I've only finished the first section (chapter?) and am just getting to Rolee heading out but already I want to see what happens. Nice little hook on the "no one will get rich from this find but this is history" thing, makes the captain/characters a little more human to me. I, of course, realize that most of the TB future world is dark and gritty but I always love a good underdog story. Anyways, I'll keep popping in here as I get more and more read. After I finish everything I'll try to do an extensive write up as a kindle review.

I've been playing an unhealthy anount of Elite: Dangerous recently.
Currently on an exploration trip, spent the last 6 hours exploring uncharted sectors of the Milky Way while slowly working my way towards the center of the galaxy.
Really the whole of Elite: Dangerous is so fun. I have been playing it for a while now and have got myself kitted out in a purpose built ASP with a jump range of 34 light years. I hop into a system and, if I find something worth exploring, play TB games on my phone while moving out to the planets/neutron stars/etc.
If yoy really love space and want to play a great sandbox game, Elite: Dangerous is totally worth it!

TA2

Hey there sennett! TA2 will definitely be available on your phone sometime (relatively) soon. It's alpha has just opened for registration, as you may be aware, so you might want to consider joining up. Having gone through a bunch of alphas with the brothers I can say that they are all a ton of fun. As and alpha member, you really do have a huge amount of "face time," so to speak, with the brothers. Feedback doesn't really cover it because the brothers give a huge amount of weight to their alpha crew's thoughts. Even if you decide not to join the alpha you can look forward to TA2 coming out sometime soon. In my experience the Alpha period goes by in a flash, so (and this is totally my opinion as a forum member) expect TA2 out in aroujd 2 months time.

Don't worry, previous alphas have always been on Android. The brothers are just not able to hand out full elite versions of the game to people.
I'm also curious what the long term plans for TA2 will be, are you guys planning extra content or IAP? Possibly extra classes or weapon packs that are planned for later release? Or maybe even cosmetic stuff like in 4x?

Extremely excited about that kind of word count, fallen. I'm a hardcore kindle user, so be sure to keep us updated on the Amazon access.

fallen - Well, I actually think you did a good job and actually laughed at your repeated restarts to get all the forgotten stuff in there. There are tons of things you could do, like planet names and the like, but nothing really seriously necessary at the moment. Thanks for schooling us all on the pronunciation there!

I do have a question about bombardment and the like. How is it done, lore-wise? Are bombardments in the ST universe relatively clinical things like Dan Simmons imagined in his Hyperion books, concentrated beams and plasma lances from orbit, or are they disastrous world ending things like kinetic kill projectiles dropped from orbit?

Oh, that could be very interesting. I'll pick it up for my Kindle. How long is it? Any teasers on the content, or are you going to leave us hanging?

I always love building fighters, usually pumping up evasion and putting the best 1AP weapon I can on them. The general aim is to make them as cheap as possible while making them hard to hit. Sure, they may drop like flies when the AI starts seriously attacking, but they provide a nice early game buffer.

I am proud to say that I got nearly all of the ST stuff correct except for Rychart. I always pronounced it Rye-Chart ㅠㅠ.
HoS, well I was so far off on most of them it wasn't even funny.
