Doesn't seem very in character. In ST 2 you'd need to convince the officers and crew that this plan made sense, and I just cannot see it going off without a mutiny  just tell them it's the only way they can live |

crackshotcerberus 4 on the inside, and as many as you need velcro'd to the outside of the hull. Of course you don't always have enough EVA suits, so the outside crew will have to rotate suit usage. Good news - after one rotation, you're pretty much should have the right crew to suit ratio Even better news - your heat shield maintenance costs drop for re-entry. You just have to scrape off an excessive carbon buildup on the outside of your ship.
