We all have a favorite faction. My question is which one, and why? The companies and the buccaneer type factions count, too. This isn't exclusive to the starter one.
Mine is Ruesland. I like their background and style, plus I also enjoy flying a decent looking flag.

Yes, but why do you like Ruesland? I am curious as to why some people prefer one faction over another. Is it because of different politics? Is the factions military more powerful than another? Maybe it is simply because their flag is more appealing (won't be surprised by this answer). I wish to eventually conduct the same survey on the Star Traders forum, and possibly the ST2 forum when it comes out.

I don't know, really... I guess it's a combination of starting location, previous experience with each factions' ships, and the fact that they were the first faction I had a great captain with. I really like the layout of their region, and I like having an entire corner of a gigantic map to call home. To me they seem the most noble of the the factions, and the most self-sufficient of the three major factions. The Cadari don't have any agriculture to speak of, and the Federation is my most hated enemy, as they have been nothing but a thorn in my side since day one, and every since they crossed my path, they have been enemy number one in every game I've played.
This nobler feeling faction has me so endeared with them that my most successful captain to date has become the subject of a long running story, and has occupied much of my time and energy.

In the very earliest days of AoP all ships started in Ruesland territory, just outside of Kinloch Rannoch. Which means they were the first faction I worked out a money-making trade route for. This has left me with happy Ruesland feelings. It's called 'first mover advantage'.

Ruesland is my favorite because it has a nice region layout and I had a nice time being a merchant. Got a nice and reliable trade route in the East Acadas.

Canaries Empire is my favourite. Being in the middle is great for either an a ton packed warpath, or making very nice profits very fast. Cross faction trading is not a big deal either if you pre plan your product trades and pay off the small apology fees. The only thing I dislike about them is that Kaihmer is not even at war with them 50% of the time, and they are supposed to be sworn enemies? Fun game though. I wish there was a wiki for it, and more information. Soo far the officer list was useful, and found a list for (mostly) what to trade at what locale types. Other than those, useful information is left wanting. I don't mind learning the hard way though haha. I would like to request some information about achievements and unlocks if anyone knows enough about them to make such a list that includes how to achieve them
