Is there any slavery in the factions? The game doesn't mention it so I believe the answer is a no but I got an idea for a story that I could do that involves it. It would really help to know if there is.

I have a theory, but I don't know if it is true. If any nations were to allow slavery, then it would most likely be the Hansa or Kushan. I believe Hansa would allow slavery because we know nothing about them. When someone has as many secrets as them, one starts to wonder why. I believe the Kushan Empire would because they are the only nation that really fits the bill. The federation, no matter how much I hate them, couldn't have slavery because it would conflict with the whole religion thing. The Cadari would recognize the military disadvantage of it, whilst Ruesland just seems to innocent. The Gao seem overall illogical. I have found little information about the nation's and how they run things, except tiny hints within the game. If we were given a full on background page, then maybe I could theorize more.

But would the Cadari like to have Janissaries?

Slavery isn't part of the AoP universe. Due to the summer-winter cycle being so extreme (50+ years between) the population of the world is fairly low for the land mass and resources.
Furthermore, the majority of Nations make heavy use of a type of regional magic that provides something that functions similarly to early industrialization. Magic in AoP is a practical one -- shaping earth, healing wounds, melting ice, shaping iron ... etc.

Like I said, it is only a theory.

And how long has the current summer period been in effect?

At least one or two of the ice demon ships are described as slavers.I already sank one such.
