Windows 8.1 ST 4x v2.0.3 I Logged on to Steam then my list of games and clicked Play Game for ST4x (Full screen default not windowed) Problem: The Main menu displays with all the choices (No sound track) I then Left clicked on Help. Screen locks cannot start new game or exit 4x. How did I resolve? CTRL+Alt+Delete to bring up task manager. Luckily I didn't have to force close Steam because the task manager allowed me to see my desktop so I clicked on the active Steam session and did a normal Steam exit. (There was a message from Steam letting me know it was waiting for ST 4x to end.) Upon exiting Steam my screen auto navigated to this link. It looks just like the game guide but is a single document left justified not the one we see on the website. www.tresebrothers.com/star-traders-4x-empires/game-manual?extract=1#Star_Traders_4X_EmpiresAdditional: From the Main Menu if I leave the help button alone and left click "Play" the game starts normally. There is still no music sound track, all ship and and planet sound effects working except Explorer ship movement is silent. If there is an auto error message sent to you guys I tried it again at 5:15 pst

That doesn't sound like anything that would send an error message.
How is your browser system configured? Do you use Chrome? Do you have a default browser? Do you have any extra security features or software running that might block an application from opening a web page?

My default Browser is Google Chrome. This is the first time I have run ST 4x on Steam (Always Kindle in the past). My antivirus is Norton 360 What is really odd is I get no music sound track on the menu or during play (not pressing Help button). Here is a list of some of the games I own on Steam that currently run without incident: HoS, Age of Wonders, Company of Heroes:Tales of Valor, Fallout 2, Lords of Xulima, Magic the gathering 2014, Panzer Corp, Primordia, Talisman, Xcom. I've messed up in the past and hope this isn't one of those occasions, apology in advance. This is a partial screen snap of what it looks like when I auto route upon exiting Steam and a web browser page opens.

@johnrobison - the music issue is known and is fixed for the next update.
What is "auto route upon exiting Steam"?

Still playing catch up didn't spot the sound issue bug fix. You are so right more precision is needed so here is what is happening. (The snaps are not full screen so I hope that's ok.) 1. Logon to Steam Start ST4x 2. On main menu left click Help 3. All functions on the Main menu no longer work. I cannot get out any other way so. 4. To get out of ST4x lockup I CTRL+ALT+Delete the next screen looks like this 5.Then I close the webpage by clicking the red x box in the upper right hand corner and my screen looks like this: The entire desktop has turned white with only the task manager and toolbar visible. 6. As mentioned I can see the Steam icon on my toolbar and when I left click it looks like this 7. I then go to the Left hand top select Exit Steam; A message appears indicating it is waiting for St4x to end. Steam exits and I am returned back to my desktop and it looks like this 8. I then close the task manager and the webpage which returns me to my normal desktop with wallpaper icons etc.

I'm curious, What do you make of how the manual format displays differently in item 4 compared to 7? Also I'm trying to find the PC hot keys, I'm pretty sure they are on the forum will keep looking.

Excellent! Just tried, and it does break out of Steam without CTRL+ALt+Delete. It tries to bring up the manual but right at this moment we are getting the database connection error message so probably need to bring the website up again. I also just tried running it in Windowed mode the results are the same. In both cases ST4x continues to run in the background without being visible, Steam shuts it down for me on exit.
