It's my first time trying a melee only Selen and she just reached level 18. It seems like the mobs are usually pretty far away and I generally use the stealth turn to get in formation and cast curses and then let them come to me. Even if I could advance and get a couple hits in, I think she would be too exposed. Has anyone had good results with this talent?

I've juuuuuuuust invested my first point into that talent. The 20% crit chance is too good to ignore. I haven't been beefing her blades skills up as much as her bow skills, so that's another area I am beginning to focus on. We'll see just how effective she is with SaS

All my Selen builds are dual blades melee. My teams do not rely on stealth. I think SaS is tailor made for the Selen ranged/stealth bow builds. You can also alleviate her problem of getting too far out front by putting points in to Dance of Shadows she can use the extra MP to regroup after attacking. But I think if you choose SaS the extra DoS +MP is far better spent allowing an Archer to maneuver than a melee fighter as Vraes is so fond of saying "Charge!"

fallingleaf Sadly steel and shadow is not worth it at all. It only lasts the first turn and you have to run her way ahead of your team Unlike Tam's Silent Stalker, which has a use past the first turn of combat and doesn't require you to overreach. fallen it really needs a rework.

I've never even considered it.. to put her that far ahead is just cutting her nose off to spite her face...
It's much safer to stick with DoS and have a lower crit% than to risk the KO, in my opinion... I'd rather see it be a buff that lasts the entire first round, from stealth, so that a bow can be used, otherwise I have no idea how this move can even be used safely.

Steel and shadow only works on melee attacks

Okay - so overwhelming votes against SaS ... I haven't actually gone and tested it in combat after adding it - I'll go find something to stab and see how things go

Would adding more MP from stealth make it a better talent? Giving her the ability to actually reach an enemy and maybe even retreat a little after her attacks?

CdrPlatypusYour right I totally forgot about that. I got into the habit of thinking that ranged was the only thing it could be used for, and yet right in Selen's table it is clearly stated melee only Vraes Juggernaut lvl 18 makes sense but I really can't see how SaS would do Selen any good. It is so important to use level 18 and higher talent points without wasting them. fallen could you give a little insight on good ways to use SaS? There must be a good reason it is there but maybe I just can't see it. (wouldn't be the first time I missed something important).

Yo, guys, I don't get tons of time to play, much less fashion multiple teams, so I need to make my teams right the first time. I just dinged 18 and was looking for this very topic. Selen needs a direction. I built her as a switch hitter, stacking +dam/+crit% and trying to max DoS, PS and my empowered melee attack evenly. Sure seems as though my top tier talent is destined to go to waste while KJ, KY and VR are rocking theirs to the max. Shame. Any word on a rework?

I need to make my teams right the first time. That's not realistically possible. There's no single way to play this game. There's eight combinations of playable characters, at least two viable talent builds per character, that makes it 16 different parties well before accounting for countless tactics to play the same build. And all people are different, with different preferences, degree of patience and and different appreciation for defensive and offensive strategies. I would say, go ahead and do whatever you feel right. By the time you hit CoD, you should have acquired enough moonstone shards to respec at least twice, so you can try a different build, if you would feel underpowered with your current allocation.

I've never added a point into it. Like I said above, to advance her to where she could get a kill would leave her way ahead, or if you brought everyone else with her you would be exposed to any ranged opponents.
I would use it after you have a comfortable base and nothing else you would want to spend points on. I would rather max out Dance of Shadows and have her maximum +MP boost before going into such a circumstantial talent.

+MP buffs and gear, as well as getting Farsight to a point where it can be cast for free (0 AP after the rebate) from Stealth is important to making Steel and Shadow effective.

Steel and shadow is not worth it at lvl 18. It is maybe worth it with DOS 7 and +2 mp boots
It has no use after first turn.
