Hi,
I just finished Chapter 3. and waiting for Chapter 4. However, I also did a system upgrade to Android 5.0.2
This made my device (nexus 7) really slow. Really, really slow. Even my daughter noticed.
I thought I should do a factory reset and start again. In Android settings there is an option saying "Automatic restore: When reinstalling an app, restore backed up settings and data". This is by default ON. Also the option "Back up my data" is always set to "ON". Since day 1.
I said, "OK" let's do the factory reset.
After the reset, Android asked me to re-install all apps. I said "NO" because I only want to re-install the ones I am using the most and not all of them.
Now, as I start re-installing apps, I noticed that no settings and data is being restored. I haven't re-installed HoS, yet. I am scared to see that I might have lost my progress.
Am I doing something wrong? What should I do?
I thought all app data are backed up in Google. Is this not the case?

I hate to break it to you, but unless you backed up your saved game data by doing a data transfer between devices, it's all gone. I've had to factory reset before, and nothing was left of my saved games. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, xpanta

No? How was I supposed to know?

xpanta - I am not sure, and I haven't been presented that option before ... but I am not sure I've ever done a factory reset. Our suggestion is to use a 3rd party backup app, like Helium: www.tresebrothers.com/transfer-saved-games-between-devices/I am keeping my fingers crossed that by some stroke of luck your game is not gone!

I haven't re-installed HoS, yet. I am scared to see that I might have lost my progress. Am I doing something wrong? What should I do? I thought all app data are backed up in Google. Is this not the case? Those settings are for automatic restore. Since you said 'no' when your device asked you of you wanted that function to reinstall everything, manually reinstalling your apps won't reinstall your data. As far as I'm concerned, every game should come with cloud support for game saving, yet many don't. Google offer three services: leaderboards, achievements on a permanent profile, and cloud saving (now called 'Google Saved Games'). Many games which make use of the first two don't bother with the last one, and as most people upgrade their devices every 24 months, it's pretty inexcusable - especially for people who have replaced their PC with a tablet and cannot use other backup methods. It costs a developer nothing but time to implement it, as saved games are stored in the players Google Drive, albeit invisibly and protected so it cannot be tampered with or edited by a different app or game. Implementing Google Saved Games should be something which every game developer does, as far as I'm concerned. Not only does it back up your save for changing devices, it lets you, for example, stop playing on your phone while on the bus and switch to your tablet when you get home on the same save file. Much more info can be found HERE for those who are interested. You can also see how the leaderboards and achievements work too
