When you try to buy a ship, the game tells you that any inventory not moved over will be lost, but then it never gives you the opportunity to move the inventory over. Did I miss something, is there a step missing, or is this a bug?

I found the same problem today, as it happened my ship didn't have anything much except for some Water-Fuel but I didn't dare cancel the purchase and go sell my loot in case the ship wasn't available afterwards.

we should have this all fixed up. now you can see the ship and if you decide to buy it, you could sell your stuff OR even leave the planet and cache it, come back with the new ship.
that is the beauty of the idea posted here on the forum about "ships for sale" in a list instead of a randomizer!

updating this: i've purchased a couple ships on the newest code. each ship said they had X/Y cargo, where X>0. when i got the ship, the cargo hold was empty.
i don't mind so much that i lose all my cargo when i buy a new ship (and don't get the option to move it over) but i always rationalized it with the knowledge that i would be able to offset those losses with the cargo in the new ship now, that seems to be gone

The quickest fix I can implement is to always display 0/Y cargo on new ships.
We could turn back on free cargo but I got a lot of e-mails (20+) about how people found it confusing.
More often, the complaint was "the game has a bug when it transfered my cargo it got it wrong." Trying to explain to new players that it isn't a bug was very hard.

0/Y is fine by me.
Long-term, do you think we'll be able to transfer cargo upon purchase?

I thought the concern would go away with Purchase + Dry Dock.
I assumed we would get along with Caches and Dry Docks.
I should be able to wire the "Loot Ship" API to use two of the Captain's Ships.
It might take a bit of work. Think it is worth it?
