You know, I think Cyber-Knights takes place on a forgotten planet in some quadrant that didn't have Templars to guide it. The factions infighting got so intense that they could barely defend themselves from the Xenos.They managed to defeat the aliens but crippled themselves doing it. The factions eventually fell apart and a colony that had been mostly destroyed by the Xenos continued to struggle on...
The point of this is to show how you could get a cyber Knight feel out of star traders.

The Brothers I think have said that for all intents and purposes, Earth doesn't exist in the shalunverse continuity. And its pretty apparent that that CK takes place on Earth- as screwed up as it is. But the feel of a cyberpunk setting is very adaptable to a seedy, underfunded colony world sporting a totalitarian government, interplanetary megacorporations, cybertechnology, information networking, ect.

I have a Head Canon about a heavily cybered knight named Solomon Gunn,a very unlucky but skilled Agent Ex. After a failed raid on a Yakashima facility he was "silenced" by an Aztec hit squad. In reality, he was abducted and Cryogenicly frozen, too valuable to kill but too dangerous to let loose. After a few decades,the paperwork on him was lost(in a fire or...whatever, not the point). The cryo...tube....thing changed hands,was stolen,sold, you get the idea.
After an eternity in a frozen wasteland(how the cryogenic tube was programmed to keep him sane) he was awakened...by an explorer away team on an uncharted planet,in the treasure vault of a lost Pirate Lord's ship. On the way back to the ship most of the away team were slaughtered by feral Xenos except the Captain,his Bodyguard and a skilled exo-scout. After a few dicey week's of the crew trying to figure out what to do with him,he proved too useful to get rid of. After a few decades as the ships Military Officer,Captain Azani died dueling a Xeno Tyrant. Leading what few men remained Solomon escaped,barely on the ships battered escape shuttle.....
