Sometimes when you're wandering around, some chummer comes up to you and says "Oi, do ths job or you'll regret it". you have the choice of saying sure, up yours, or some other action.
It would be really good to know what the job is BEFORE you choose to say "yesh why not".
The job could be in the opposite direction of where you're heading The job could involve delivering something to a faction that you've been cultivating as a best buddy The job could involve doing something that would likely result in you getting slaughtered ...
If you know what the job was, then you'd be able to react appropriately.

Why would they give you that information? "You're going to do this job or you'll regret it. But first, ... let me give you some details that will make you likely to say no ... and then you're going to kill me." I don't think it fits well with the request, honestly.

You should have an intimidation or reputation roll at least ... if successful, they back the hell down and say "Sorry sir/mam, I thought you wos some other chummer."
I'm sure if you had very high rep, or high intimidation, they'd understand there are repercussions of threatening one of the favorites of that faction. Worse, with high intimidation, you could turn around and say "Not only will I say no, but you're gonna work for me. AND BE HAPPY ABOUT IT. If you don't, then I'm going to kick your butt from this side of the NBC to the other."
I mean to say, I know I'm pretty new to the game, but I'm a Vice President at BraveStar (I like their badges), and no lowlife BS street hood should come and try and boss me around.

slayernz - you're on their turf! And they've been sniffing car batteries. They don't know what is good for them. I'll take a look and see if an Intimidate roll is in order here.

As VP of Brave Star, walking around Brave Star territory, I expect the Brave Star riff-raff to bow before me and clean my shoes before scurrying away to do my bidding.

I dunno fallen, he's got a point. I know corps don't trust you and consider you a nice stick to smack other corps with, but it still seems silly that, I, being a legendary CK with 20+ rep would be threatened when I'd probably take a quest if it wasn't a total time/cash sink. Double this if I am super-popular with a corp (as in quite useful, and worth giving gifts to-- honey attracts more flies than vinegar, especially when trying to get a turncoat-- ask Benedict Arnold) and have a lot of XP (I'm sorry, I swore I heard a little maggot talking to the one giant that could 'accidentally' kill a stupid BS squad making bad life choices. No? Great. Now, if you'll excuse me, I got work to do.).

It is very easy, but also very wrong, to assume that a Faction is a single, unified, and coordinated creature.

So we, with high RP, can beat these individuals into a messy pulp with reduced consequences? At the very least, if you decline, there should be a save vs RP or save vs Intimidate just like when you have an encounter and you get a +Negotiate if you are faction friends Otherwise I'm going to go passive-aggressive and do the messy pulp thing to the thugs who come up to me.

"Sounds crazy, I know. But hear me out. If you don't give me some details, death will not be optional. It will be mandatory. No tricks, no surprises: just you dying, as a result of me killing you in a very very gruesome way."

"Yeah look, you seem like a nice kid. A bit wet around the ears, but hey, I was like that once. As such, I'm going to cut you a bit of slack. I won't fix your balance problem by putting two lead slugs in your left ear. Instead I'm going to ask nice. What's the job? You're gonna tell me, and if it is worth my while, I might even do it. If you're wasting my time though, either run away or those lead slugs will be coming your way."

fallen, I was thinking about this again, and think that although they won't necessarily tell you what the job is before you accept it, you should be able to have more options than: * Accept Contract * Evade * Kill There needs to be a 4th option: * Intimidate. "I'll let them know just who they are dealing with" If your rep is high, you get a + to your chance (just like when you get some hostiles coming at you and you have high rep). If you win the Intimidate save, you get to walk away, they don't do anything, and they don't force the job on you. If you fail, then it ends in violence.
