Go to the Ship's Tab, it will show the Flag of your Ship.
The Flag of your ship has many impacts, and in story it is the fabric of the ship.
Being able to re-flag the ship would make the game easier, but does it make it better?
I'm not 100% convinced yet. How about ... buy a new ship? =)
It'll keep you busy for a few more turns ... he hehe

Game balance wise, I concede that reflagging could make things too easy.
I'm assuming that when you trade-in your Cadar Valentine at a Steel Song starport and buy a Steel Song Jango Class, the starport is going to reflag the Valentine and sell it as a Steel Song Valentine. That Jango Class may have been a Javat ship that someone else turned in earlier.
Does the starport strip the ship completely and rebuild it from component parts? That seems like a lot of work when the ship might be in excellent condition already. In the game world, what is the actual mechanism of the ship flag?
Balance-wise, why not make the reflagging option very expensive and time-consuming (there's a LOT of paperwork)? Maybe make it an option for only certain classes like Military Officers? How about an unlockable achievement after taking 50 ships with one captain?
