This probably goes in the list of things that won't get done but this IS a wishlist!
I'd love to have a little sandbox mode where I can tweak builds at various levels and fight simple mobs to see how my builds do - separate from the main game. I wouldn't mind if this was an IAP - it's really only a tool that a subsection of more involved players will use. And it shouldn't take that much work to throw down a menu to pick the character level you want to test at and a couple of small caverns with basic enemies...

Blitz - thanks for the wish, we'll take it into consideration!

Blitz - thanks for the wish, we'll take it into consideration! Thanks! If that happens, I might be *more* tempted to buy the respec IAP which is the only one I haven't bought yet... As a preemptive to those who might complain about IAPs, if you're talking about respecs and sandbox modes, you've probably already got more than your money's worth...

Our current tact to look at this type of feature is to focus more on Boost In capabilities, where you could start at the end of E1A1, E1A2, or even at the end of E2. Drop right into the game with a higher level group, level up, get a random allocation of gear, and go to town.
The end of E4 after the story end will play a bit like a sandbox.

That's not a bad idea at all but I must say that it would feel odd to pay a couple of dollars just to skip the first act... Letting people start at the episode they just bought with the levels they're expected to have by that point might not be a bad idea though - especially since I managed to delete my game where I got to Ep2...ugh. The reason I asked for a sandbox mode is because this game just lends itself to endless tweaking between characters and talents - I used to spend HOURS with Diablo II and a save file editor, trying to get that perfect build - and then spend HOURS putting that perfect build into action and then scrapping the whole thing and starting over...

I think an IAP where you could set a level, pick your characters, (maybe pick your opponent races too), get a drop of random gear and apply their skill, attribute and talent points and then play 1-2 levels would be pretty awesome. It would really let you try a lot out so that you could make some decisions about how to build your team and then you could go in and actually try to develop that team in an actual game. For me it would be far more worth $5 than the respec option. It might even solve some of the "Boost in" issue. People want to boost in because they made it to E2 and suddenly their group isn't working. They know how to tweak it, but don't want to go and play back through E1 again. With the "Cave of the Seer Lords" IAP you could make and test groups ahead of time for effectiveness so that you wouldn't get stuck with underperforming groups so much.

I think it would be awesome as DLC too. There is the problem of newcomers though: We, as people who have played the game for dozens of hours and know the extra work that will go into creating a sandbox mode, will be happy to purchase it for a reasonable cost. People buying the game for the first time, however, may be appalled. "Hang on, I have to pay AGAIN just to TRY my characters out before settling on a build? Before I even start the game proper!?". Maybe a solution would be to have it as an add on the same price as an episode (thus keeping the excellent value of bought gameplay consistent), and providing it free of charge for those with Elite. Think of it as kind of bonus mini episode, in that regard.

Sounds like a whole new game, honestly. Great suggestions all!

You also could use the it like an arena to test new monsters and AI. Like to check for bugs or to see the skill level of the community.
