Glad to see you've gotten a new ally! What team do you have now? I don't believe you mentioned what Cyber Knight class you chose or what Runner you made into an ally yet.

Does the amount of XP you have to spend on Ally depend on CK's/Runner's *total* XP level? Won't Runners allied later in game cost more? Absolutely it does... 1 knight had to pay 100+ xp for each of his 3 runners to be allies... yeah so manipulating implants and dv values to work 100 free xp up on ck and only 1 runner at a time, 3 times back to back takes fooooooooorever... take my advice and recruit the runner now b4 u feel the urge to smash ur own face with the palm of ur hand

Yes. Now take her to Hawken Pawn Brokers in Copley Square and buy her a nice Taser Glove. "This Valentine's day, give her the gift she really wants." Back on topic. Ol' Clive is great when you're starting out, but he's training wheels. I tend to keep him for a while in gangland and then bench him. Lately I keep teams of 3 or 4 with one long- term ally or hund, a frequent-hire runner or two, and a n00b as a future investment. I can take jobs suitable to my Knight's level so long as I keep the n00b well-armored and on the move, and take long walks through gangland on the way.

XD Clive is cool simply because you get him early enough to be useful without making him too much of a handicap. Think of that poor guy you pick up in the Blue Ox tunnels. By the time you're strong enough to get in there, he's beyond underwhelming. I should probably request something about that...

There are 2 Clive Zeps, the gunslinger (you get if you are a cybersword) and the stick-wielding cybersword. You can turn the gunslinger one into something useful, but I am surprised that people think that the stick wielder is worth keeping even when brand new. Your fights will be harder given that you will have roughly twice as much XP on your team as you would have if you ditched him at the earliest opportunity, and even when you buy him an expensive stick he _still_ doesn't do half of the killing that your 2-person team does. I'd much rather have the easier fights until I can get myself a taser glove (or an Ares type blasta gun if I am female 2), and once I have that I don't want to spend my time baby-sitting poor old Clive. It is time to buy the gear for an investment in somebody that you will be happy to have around throughout the game.
Neat how different people can get different ways to enjoy this game.

For what it's worth, I always used to focus on immediately building a team of 4 and recruiting ASAP. Then to mix things up I tried the hire for cash only and spend every XP on leveling them. I had little success with this when any member was a melee focused character but eventually tumbled to the stealth+dodge armour tactic. My knight was a sniper and my runners were hacker (a must have for ladder climbing), face and gunslinger. Make sure they all have weapons with minimum 5 range (in my case, Raptor II's for face and gunslinger, hacker got the mongoose and steel wave/penemag for my sniper CK) and get the +1 optimal range cyberware (target optimiser I think). Be sure to buy everyone some dodge armor and concentrate body, dexterity, stealth and firearms.. Once you start entering corps territory most (if not all?) Enemies carry range 5 weapons. Engage them at their maximum range of 5 so that you stealth skill a nd armor dodge is added to your defence score and the +1 optimal range implant increases your accuracy. There is a point where this seems to not be ideal, but once you can get the 4 job computer from Yaka backroom and your team of skilled shooters can evade most enemy fire whilst hitting their targets you can start earning plenty of yen to rehire your crew that will depart after a week from hiring date. At peak levels you will be able to rehire them at around 4-5k each week but they are more than enough to earn that back easily from a few high paying jobs in one day. Throw in some dermal lacing and even without nano armor you will survive almost anything. I had much fun with this build so thought I would share. Yen is plentiful, XP is the true currency so stunting the development of your CK (45xp for 3 runners at the cheapest) and runners (15xp each art the cheapest) is a pretty expensive move that leaves you at quite a disadvantage. One of a myriad of possibilities this game provides. (Throw in the relatively cheap chipped skills II for some added effectiveness too)

1. I hired a sniper to my team but when I tried to use him to attack it popped up "Weapon #1 ammo exhausted"------ edited : omg - - i had to click add ammo in carried menu... I thought it's ok to use reload in the fight = ="2. Is there any hired merc that is a woman? xD yes there are a few i have encountered.bravestar is a good place to search out some melee runners who use fists.the one i always get is a tribal looking female wearing green.
