Ship Upgrade Clarification Please

I'm still a bit confused by the ship upgrading system. Can I get multiple upgrades? And if I have a lower lever upgrade, can I upgrade my upgrade?

From what I've seen, the answer is no and no.

Is that how you intended its functionality?

As it stands, I don't upgrade until i'm offered the biggest option so that I don't lose out, but from the titles, it seems like they should be cumulative.

The answer is no and no.

The existing upgrades are only a fraction of the total supported by the game.

We are testing the additional upgrades now.

With the ability to upgrade and store a ship the current upgrades will represent "cheap" or generic upgrades. These will also be randomly found on ships in combat at higher difficulty levels (thus making the ship less valuable for a specific class upgrade as well as more difficult to defeat.)
