I'm about to upgrade to Elite! But how do I transfer my character to the Elite Version? Or does it do it automatically? Sorry for sounding like a noob!

It's really easy migrating your Free captain to Elite. Note though - the captain + ship migrates over. You don't get any of the awards*, caches, or dry-docked ships that you may have had in Free. Note, copying the captain from Free to Elite is just that ... copying. You are in no way deleting or modifying your Free version's captain.
To migrate the captain over, open up your STRPG Elite game, and from the Title screen, select "Roster". In the Roster screen, scroll to the bottom and you'll see "Copy from Free".
When you select that, you'll see the pilots that can be copied over (ie, they are still alive). Copy one at a time by selecting the "Copy To Elite" button. Note when you press it, there is initially no response. Just wait patiently for the migration to take place. It'll probably take less than 10 seconds or so.
Once you have copied a captain over, it'll drop you back into the Roster screen again. If you've made a mistake, or copied a captain over twice, select the "View" button, and you can Delete the captain.
Deleting the captain will only erase the captain from Elite - it won't delete the captain from Free.
*If your captain has done enough to trigger the award anew, then you'll get it when you go into any hall of records and record your exploits. What will be missed are awards that are either time limited (do x contracts in y years), or conditional (do x number of contracts but fail less than y).

I just figured I'd let you know, I had no success porting my character from free to Elite.
Got a message that no pilot could be found to copy, when clearly that's not the case (Legendary Star Hero, lost).

Hey 12coryt - as an aside, you'll be happy to know that because your Free character hasn't been deleted, you can actually use the import to Elite as a way to try out some strategies in a safe way. Want to see what it's like being hated by everyone at once? Take your established captain and wreak havoc in an unsuspecting Elite galaxy. If your captain gets killed off, it's okay because you can re-import the captain from Free and try something else.
I've got a few test captains in Free that allow me to test some of the questions in the forums without risking my "real" captains. For example, I wouldn't just go and spend a pile of cash on random ships to see how the trade-in values had been changed. Nor would I normally buy particular upgrades just to see what stats they change.

isynic -- are you using the Amazon Free + Android Elite? Probably. Is there anything to do about it?

Both versions must come from the same store.
I can refund your Elite purchase if it was made on the Android Market.
