Perhaps add the ability to update current ships with newer equipment. This would avoid having to destroy your veteran ships To make room for updated versions.

This may not be a feature we can ever add to the game, but we're looking at other ways to preserve your veteran crews.

25 Experience for a Cruiser, Carrier or Heavy Reactor ship is equal to approximately +5 Levels.
New ships are no match for your veterans in battle. 100XP ships are venerated super ships! =)

I will have try keeping some ships around then with fighters being the only ones that can be repaired via "spell" I've just been running ever thing else into the ground either suicide or demolish and bringing in a steady stream of new shiny ones.

That's definitely one way to do it. Fighters do not benefit from XP like Normal and Heavy Reactor ships do. The benefit of XP is the biggest advantage the player's fleet has over the Xeno.

Fighters do not benefit from XP like Normal and Heavy Reactor ships do. why dont you write that in manual? anyway how much is that benefit? also i dont really see differences between 20exp invader vs fresh invader with same tunings (all technology from planetary inv 3 tree) - i always use 8 invaders at once (all scout, next turn all invade, next turn all scout, if needed next turn almost all invade)

1. Fighters benefit from XP, but they do not gain Level bonuses like capital ships. This means you should upgrade your Fighters more regularly, and keep in mind that very high XP fighters have a major Critical Hit bonus.
2. The list of things to add to the manual is very long, and Experience tables are absolutely on the list.
3. Experience is extremely critical for Invasion ships. High XP Military Transports will outperform 0 XP ships at a rate of around 3::1.
