So I'm coming back to using Vraes and I'm having trouble getting into the swing of things even with boost in. Maybe I'm just overwhelmed by the options but nothing is clicking as nicely as a damage avoiding Kincaid.
What are some tips out there for our favorite cuddly berserker? I'm especially interested in natural mastery as I've never mastered it.

Vraes can be built not so much to avoid attacks entirely, but to absorb them. He excels with Spears and Shields, which are one of the best defensive combos, imo. He can also be built to do massive damage with 2-H hammers. His large health pool and Talents such as Stone Skin and Phalanx Shield built him up so that he can take blows that would crush a normal man and keep on swinging.
As for Natural Mastery, it is a good melee buff, but I haven't used it much. I suppose it frees up skill points by giving you bonus accuracy, allowing you to spend those skill points elsewhere.

Phalanx 10 for the win. Also, try playing around with Berserk Rage, it is so OP

Vraes is extremely versatile. Combine his self buffs to suit your playing style. Berserk Rage needs at least one other defensive buff or it might be too risky, but on the other hand you won't need to push any attack talent. Of course with proper setup juggernaut is always worth 10 points. Rage 10, Phalanx 10, Juggernaut 10 is it then. Of course, Kincaid is so much cooler...

There's nothing like 250 pounds of hulking muscle charging through Orcin lines though.

I have my Vraes with a two handed long sword, with most of the skill points going into blades, and the talent points into crushing blow or ferocity.
This isy first team however, and I have just cleared the first farm hall in E1, so will have to try out other builds.

Basically there are two ways to tank with vraes. If you want an avoidence tank use phalanx shield coupled with warders/soc and eventually BOS
Or stick a 2 handed weapon on him (my faves are sword because it looks the best imo and spear because of its acc) And use stone skin plus pure flame shield and / or righteous fervor and a con heavy build to make the ultimate punching bag. Back up with a heal bomb

Back up with a heal bomb BOS - "Big Old Shield"? The 2H sword does look awesome. I only got one decentish shield, which went to kyera.

I often carry a pair of weapons for Vraes, the best 2H / 3AP and the best 1H / 3AP I can find. I'll go 2AP if not using Ferocity -- Vraes is really great in that you can switch his gear around based on the types of monsters your fighting.
Heavy ranged and cursing? Shield. Swarms of high damage skeletons? 2H!

Cheers CdrPlatypus and Cory Trese I had never considered toting multiple weapon combos, preferring to dump all my skill points into blades. Are spears good at defense because they use Dex to wield, which is also used for dodging? Or is it just the high parry values? I need to re-read the combat mechanics thread...

Blades are really great for switching weapons. There are many good 1H / 3AP STR Blades to mix with a shield, or just use the big choppa 2H / 3AP STR blade. Spears are good because they have high AR and PR, and the values you get from the Weapon are the most important ones.

Made me wonder. Staves use dex. I was expecting spears use dex too.
