Aliens on Impossible

A few weeks ago I found the "Impossible" Level hiding off the screen just above "Insane".

I have started calling my captains "Alien Bait" because they do fine right up until they meet their first alien in a space encounter. Then they die. I have high Pilot and Tactics, but no stealth (A la the shawalaladingdong strategy).

How do I kill or escape these blasted things? Any suggestions?

Without Stealth, you will not escape them, that is for sure. Well, I am not sure if Stealth even helps when you get in front of their ship.

I went Alien hunting a few times and was lucky to find one big nasty Alien once.

I have greeted them with standard Cadar greeting (aka The Hypersonic Hunter Killer Space Torpedo). A few times. Then I have started firing on their engines without much success, even tried ramming them.

They were continuing boarding attempts all the time and basically my great crew killed them all during the epic standoffs. I know that is not much of a strategy, but it worked. I have ended up with 3 health.

So I would say: Warrior, Intimidation, good Morale, Weapons. A lot of them!

BTW: I am not going Alien hunting anymore .

OK lets just say it's 98% unbelievably awesome to kill any Level 174 Alien.

That is probably higher level than I have killed.

I was just saying that as far as the really nasty Aliens go, that one at least has a Captain you can defeat =)

So you're saying I was pretty much screwed.

By the way, I wasn't hunting the aliens. But apparently they were hunting me.

I've decided with my next character my goal is going to be geared towards killing aliens.

My first thought is maybe I should stop flying around in these fast/quick tin foil ships. I love me some Fast/Quick/High Cargo Hold spacecrafts, but they just don't seem to make the Zendu Cutters and Royal Class like they used to. I have zero experience with any of those big massive ugly sloth-like ships... anyone got any recommendations?

My 2nd thought is maybe I should find myself an alien hunter.

My 3rd thought is maybe I should try to be a bit more stealthy. As in, more than 0.

My 4th thought is maybe I should try to be a bit more warrior-y. As in more than 10.

My 5th thought is... Mmmmm Donuts.

Any comments/suggestions?

I am definitely for big well armed badass style ship. This sounds as a good idea. Something like 200+ crew. I am going to try some of them with my new military officer.

I do not think that Stealth would help, in my encounter they did not hit me at all. They were boarding me all the time. But I do not have much experience with Stealth, so maybe I am wrong.

If I would be gearing against the Alien, I would go with Military officer, Alien Hunter officer, Warrior, Intimidation, Cargo full of weapons, some Crew upgrades especially Shalun Mercenaries, some boarding upgrade or Weapon Cabinet.
