The Yakuza have discovered that I am en route to deliver a secret message, and they don't approve.
I have 3 options:
Kill Threaten (requires Body and Intimidate) Flee (requires Dexterity and Stealth)
Shouldn't Athletics be part of any Fleeing action? Stealth seems misplaced. Dex and Stl are fine for getting around checkpoints undetected, but these Enforcers know all about me.

Well, I think it should be atl+stl... Athletics for the running and stealth for fleeing. Dexterity doesnt help because its not so much requiring finesse.

Interesting, in that I think of Stealth as the 'finesse' bit ... but I could see Stealth and Athletics.

Well I played Shadowrun and when I ran we always did those. Dexterity (called Agility) was used mainly for what your skills couldn't accomodate (like keeping your balance on a slippery slope).

I think Stealth is arguable as you need to lose them.

But Athletics belongs, correct, so the thing should be changed?

No, I would leave this as Stealth. It fits the encounter and fits into the balance of skill use for encounters in that class.

Keep stealth, but change Dex to Ath. When you're running like mad to get away from those who would want to hurt you lots, you would be relying more on athletics than dexterity. If you're so out of shape that you can't run 30 feet without getting puffed, you're gonna be in big trouble.

slayernz - all of the tests in Encounters are Attribute (Dex) + Skill (Stealth).

No, they don't. Many encounters where you can flee (the button you tap says 'Flee' on it) are dependent on Athletics. 'Avoiding' seems done with Stealth and Dex, while Fleeing often seems to involve Athletics. Maybe the places which don't involve Athletics should be [avoid] and not [flee]?
Are you saying that these checks have to be one Attribute and one Skill, so Stealth and Ath (2 skills) is not possible?
If so, I would say that those checks you want to make dependent on Stealth and not Athletics should be about avoiding, or dodging and not fleeing, because fleeing says 'run for your life!!!', while stealth says 'do it in a way that you aren't noticed in the first place'. 'Dodge' seems a pretty good word for encounter decisions that are Dex dependent ...

I am in the Blue Ox smuggling tunnels. I hear a patrol. I get the options to Meet, or to Flee. The initial screen doesn't tell you what fleeing requires .... but I tapped on that, failed it, and got:
Aibinn took the lead, but failed while trying to use Dexterity(3) and Athletics(5) -- and the Athletics is what I expected, if I am fleeing from a patrol.
---------
Also The enforcer warns me about an enemy sniper closing in on my position
The faster I can get out of here the better. Dexterity and Athletics will help me lose the tail. [Flee]

What I am saying is:
1) All Encounter skill checks require one Attribute and one Skill. 2) The distribution of skill and attribute combinations in Encounters (Dex + Athletics or Dex + Stealth or Mind + Stealth) is purposeful. Over-using any comb (Dex + Athletics, etc) would be a mistake. 3) I still disagree about Stealth. It is a skill of avoiding people, but also losing people.

Okay. I am fine with the idea of having plenty of checks using Stealth and Dexterity. I'm just not fine with the button that you tap to use this skill/attr combination being called [Flee] -- does this make sense? Maybe [Escape] would be better? or [Dodge] ?
