The name of the game is specialization. I had typed out a huge amount of recommendations, but damn ProBoards deleted it all when my connection derped out, so I'm sorry my post will likely remain unfinished...
Just keep in mind that you will need some sort of armor curse (build out Tam with DI 10, Silent Stalker 4-5, Ranged Onslaught 1, then the rest in Blacknight, maybe?)
If you don't use her for an armor debuff, then consider using Strickening/Energy Storm/Thundering Blades to start stacking enough damage to overcome Armor and Resistance soaks.

This thread is good for some build tips and it reminds me of some noob questions. Is the kindle version different? I'm seeing stuff about episode 3 and 4 and I'm still on two. Plus I've already spent 6 bucks on characters and chapters. Did you guys buy the elite package or does android have more options?
And what is respec? I mean, I know it's redo specifications but how do I do that?
I need to write the stats for the two games I'm playing and get some tips.

Have you pulled down the latest update? Here is a post from Feb 21 about the release of Respec - it made it to Amazon within 2 days. blog.tresebrothers.com/2015/02/re-spec-comes-to-heroes-of-steel.html

Speaking of the defence of Gholla and dying... ... I just had my first combat death there. (first except for stupid things like sending someone unbuffed and ungrouped into battle... I was distracted). So what killed me? A pig. A stupid stinking pig. ? Snuck up behind Vincent in a tunnel behind the wall and killed him in one turn. Of all the creatures there... Shaman, berserkers, armored orcs, wolflords it was a pig that killed him.

The Google Play and Amazon versions are 100% sync'ed. Have you pulled down the latest update? I'll check at home. Are there versions with more character choices? Not that I have any other choices for play anyway, but I'm curious. And would there be an advantage to getting the elite thing? Have most of the other people here spent 6 bucks on 3 extra characters and 4 bucks on 4 chapters?

Have most of the other people here spent 6 bucks on 3 extra characters and 4 bucks on 4 chapters? Four extra characters for $2 each, $1 for each episode and $5 for free respect+boost in. And yes, as far as I can tell, most people got the characters and episodes. Dunno about repec+boost in though. I got that - for me, at least, it's a small price to pay for the number of hours I've happily put in. For this particular game, I see no reason to get elite. It's more or less the same, except you spend $0.03 more and you get a fancy icon. Also, charcater purchases do NOT carry over from free to elite. So, if you've already made some purchases, stick with what you have. Now if only there was save game syncing...then I'd probably go and get it on desktop too, considering it works on Linux

Bought everything for the Free version already, all IAP and characters. Also bought all four characters for the Elite version, one of which paid for entirely by the Google Survey app. Haven't bought the Respec IAP for Elite, just because I want to keep those games pure and untainted ( )

4 Extra characters? I thought I was seeing a name I didn't recognize. I really do need to make sure it's updated itself! Is this a Vraes sub?
And I agree that it's worth it. The last game I enjoyed as much was a pc game I got on clearance for 10 bucks, so a few in app purchases is A-OK
Are there threads comparing the free ones with the 2 dollar ones? I like Selen better than Tamalin, mainly because she can attack 7 times. But I like Kharjtan better than Vincent mainly because Firebolt does so much damage. But those are probably shallow opinions based on me favoring attacking over defense and buffs and curses, which has already gotten me killed tons of times.

Amount of attacks is rarely a concern. Killing speed is what counts. Multiple weak attacks put higher emphasis on curses that increase damage output. Armor and elemental resistance curses, evasion and parry curses. This is mainly a reason I fell in love with 3 AP bows. Very, very high low end damage. You are not putting out many attacks per turn, but when a full health stone troll spearheading the attack pops like a soap bubble from just one shot - you know you've achieved something.
P.S. I think you've confused a little. There's eight heroes available in game right now. 2 for each slot. Vraes/Kjartan/Kyera/Tamilin for basic set and Kincaid/Vincent/Fyona/Selen for IAP set.

All the characters in this game are extremely viable. What the IAP characters let you do is change strategies and exploit certain powerful combos. For instance, Vincent has a strong -ap curse which frees you up to take Fyona over Kyera because you don't need her ethereal anguish. This in turn lets you get strickening, which is a great damage boost that barely anything in the game can defend against. I personally feel that both Kincaid and Selen are better than their counterparts but it is more due to play style than anything else. I prefer group buffs and curses over extreme defence, HP, and damage.

For me. The purchased characters are better. They fit my playing style much better.
The original 4 were great up to Ep2 and then I found them weak. That was early in The game history though. I know there has been rebalancing since then... And I've learnt a lot since then so it was prob user error.
I much prefer the purchase chars though. They fit me better.

All the same items, all the same prices. No difference, but you can't migrate purchases. It sounds like you have a woefully out of date version Whenever you get it updated, you're going to be in for some fun! Can you check the main menu of your game and report the version? We are at v3.2.19

SO here is what I did. After reading up on a lot of information and suggestions I went out to respec my team. And I completely screwed it up.
Initially it was better. I managed to get through the outlook, track back and head up to the hunting lodge , the sea road and up to visit the storm brothers. Then things became difficult once more and I decided to track back to visit the druid lady. My team had become significantly stronger but they were all addicted to the blue juice. The final straw for that team was when I went through the darkmoss again which had respawned (at surprise surprise the same level as my team!), when I couldn't get past a group of ratkin with a deathkin with them. Ratkin. I couldn't get past a group of level 28 Ratkin with the best equipment I could get from Brunehorn, Braeys lands, Gholla and Granthorn. I would get hit once, twice, three times all for 170-200 damage only to retaliate with 2 out of 3 hits of 33 damage each. I gave up. I restarted. And then and only then did I realise the point which was suggested to me earlier, and understood what it meant when I was told to specialize my team. This game is not about balance. A balanced team is a dead team. Hitting the dexterity button every level up has given me a team which avoids a lot of attacks even when the buffs expire, although I did notice that to have a reliable team they had become buff dependent by level 8. I haven't needed to upgrade any empowered attacks, accuracy is achieved from thundering blades bonus, Phalanx shield and Shield of Cortias are the buffs of choice, No Stone skin or righteous Fervor. It is a very marked improvement in results.
My question now is if there is a recommended storyline path to take. I decided so far to avoid the spider hut in Brunehorn and head towards Granthorn. The monsters are far easier than last time I went through (lower level) and the hidden chest items are amazing strong for my level 20 team. Levelling up seems to be as much of a curse as a blessing because the monsters increase their damage output pretty much every level up but my weaponry and buffs are my only tools for dealing the hurt - and if I can't find better weapons but keep going up levels I fear finding a similar situation I had with my past team. I read a comment that every experience point counts and I am the sort of player who doesn't feel like I have done my job correctly if I haven't cleared out the entire map and killed every enemy possible, whereas from an experience point of view sometimes I feel it might be better off to avoid fights so my level can remain in a "sweet zone". So if enemies levels are matched to mine, which path is recommended to get the right enemies at the right time. I don't really want to see level 25+ forged spiders to be honest, but I would like to be strong when I head down there.
(sorry for the novel)
