Did it take one or many generations for the Star Traders to Emigrate from the rupturing galactic core to the places they arrive in ST4X?
That is, are the people in ST4X the ones who left the core, or their descendants?

I always figured the exodus took place in giant generation ships. Is that close to reality?

It'd have to be generations later. The theme of lost technology and faded glory would be difficult if they were the same as the original refugees,You know?

I always figured the exodus took place in giant generation ships. Is that close to reality? Yes, multiple generations have lived and passed on the Colony Hives before the beginning of 4X Empires / ST RPG when they touch down and start new lives.

After the Colony Hives establish new homes in the first few turns of ST4X, colony populations continue increase, at times unexpectedly due to the arrival of new star traders still emigrating from the galactic core.
These late arrivals do not arrive aboard colon hives. I imagine them aboard a rag-tag assortment of old and failing ships. Packed in tight. Running low on hope until that moment when they first realize there are colonized systems on which settle.

At least one was packed tightly in wool, soaked in alchohol, and kept next to the main drives...

One question I have regarding general ST lore. All the different factions basically came from thr core and had cultural drift, correct? Basically, same stock but due to the long journey they naturally drifted apart culturally and formed the current factions?
If that is the case, was there any serious linguistic drift in the factions? Also, is there a possibility of running into other factions that drifted so far as to basically be "other" in the sense of not naturally seeing the current factions as allies? Or, what about factions that are so strongly inclusionist that the actively view the other factions as enemies and have antagonistic relations with them?

johndramey - the Factions are not a result of cultural drift during the Exodus. They are the great families, houses, clans and institutions of the Star Traders from Galactic Core. Cadar, Moklumne, and all the rest existed before the Exodus began. ST RPG focuses on the 6 biggest and most powerful Factions that made the jump. 4X Empires will eventually include the 12 survived to colonize some Quadrant somewhere that will appear in ST 2. There are certainly other smaller Factions that may have drifted away and many that simply went extinct during the Exodus as their small set of ships was lost and never found a homeworld or a beacon.
