Well, even on Insane, a good strategy can be fouled by the Random Number God. now that raises the question: which difficulty could be considered the most fair? So that the RNG does not favor either side too much. Or: At which difficulty is it necessary to use strategy which will not be wasted by the RNG? I don't think the highest difficulties are intended to be "fair." On impossible you have to be ready to waste a few captains before you really get one going. RNG is a something of a fact of life at that point and there are certain times when no strategy will get you out of it. With that said, with very, very careful play, it's amazing what you can survive.
