The ingame "Back" button seems to behave as expected, placing you one step back at the depth of interface you navigated. System "back" button however often put you in a different place. I.e.
Colony list - Specific colony - Buldings list - Browse upgrades - … … (system back) Specific colony … (ingame back) Buldings list
Quadrant map - Research tree - Curent research projects - … … (system back) Quadrant map … (ingame back) Research tree

anrdaemon - thanks for the report, but I don't understand. The back button is in the same place on those screens as far as I can tell. Thanks!

Well, replace "System" with "device", if that makes the report more clear. I wrote "system" because not on each device the button is an actual hardware button. On my tablet it is just another place on the shell hotbar.

Fixed the first one, wasn't able to reproduce or locate the second one.

It seems, I did something wrong when I was testing the second case. Appears to be a beast of a different kind. The unwanted and potentially undesired behavior. You can only access the list of current projects through project tree, but you can not get back to tree from the list.
