Alpha Team - Did you finish the tutorial? please answer the following questions in a 1, 2, 3 format. 1. How many RL hours did it take you? 1? 2? 2. How many times did you have to retry any level? 3. Which level was the most fun? 4. Which level was the hardest? 5. Which Templar type was your favorite? 1. I think about 2-3hrs 2. once lvl3 due to faulty tactics (and making a wrong turn on each node) leading to captain dying 3. 3rd level is fun and immersive (oh bloody hell, that line blew too..?!!) but the 4th lvl map layout and xeno spawns also gave me an interesting battle 4. 3rd because of lengthy run without healing, but lvl4 was the hardest fighting right from the start 5. so far the soldier with the overwatch is my favorite, but i'm starting to like the captain's versatility a lot on my other playthroughs Overall, I loved the new combat system from the start! And the game didn't seem like an alpha at first at all other than the lack of content. Very smooth and surprisingly polished at this point of development! Then again this is my 1st Trese alpha.

Anyways, on to my answers. 1) Not 100% sure bit I'd guess maybe... 2 or 3 hours on Hard. 2) I had to retry level 2 once due to an amazingly unlucky xeno charge into my lines. 3) 3rd for sure. It was challenging and required me to always move, keeping me from getting into a comfortable defensive position. 4) 2nd due to having limited forces and being required to have one of them be a level 1 engineer. 5) Soldier was by far the most useful but I'm more interested in both the scout (seems like it could be a lot of fun) and melee builds.

Ok, sorry it's taken so long to reply to this. Just finally finished Phase 1 today on normal. Now I'm on hard and hoping to keep my good low turn scores 1: About 2 hours, I haven't kept total track, but I feel that most likely the case. 2: level 1 has so far been 1 try only needed. Level 2 was about 5 or 7, level 3 was about 10 I think, and level 4 was 4 or 5 can't remember. 3: Level 3 is very good. I like that there's some problem solving involved but it does make it a little hard at first if going for getting a low turn count. Once you do know the solution, replaying the level to get the turns lower is a snap. 4: Level 2 starts out always with you not being able to see far enough away for setting up your Overwatch box effectively. Your TP always gets 2 to 3 hits on it. Today on my first try at Hard difficulty, I managed to stop the rush that happens on turn 2 but one Xeno still got next to the TP and hit it three times in a row. This is the only frustrating thing about the game I don't like right now and think it may turn new players off too quick. Since Engineers don't start with the Repair ability it makes defending it a little harder. Several times also when it gets to the dialog of telling you to now get an Engineer I've been short by 4 to 6 SP. A few other Alpha testers have noted this I think in other threads. 5: It's hard to pick a favorite right now, but Soldier and their Burstfire and Overwatch are really making this game fun. Engineers make great backups to Soldiers I've found so far. For level 3, having a Soldier and Engineer go one direction for one set of power nodes and my Captain and another Engineer go for the others made really good teams. The Soldier was able to do one Busrtfire and then set up Overwatch while the Engineer used his gun to take out any remaining Xenos or lower their health enough that one hit during Overwatch finished them. Overall feelings so far about the game, IT ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! P.S. part of the reason for some many tries on the the other levels was due sometimes to me quitting and starting again just because I lost one Templar. I hate losing men, if they die in battle, I should be a brave enough commander to die also

ntsheep you will be happy to learn that Engineers can build Sentry Pods. Sentry Pods have two Talents ... Burst Fire and ... Overwatch! =)

Yeah, I can't wait too much longer for those. Hopefully Alpha Phase 2?

Yeah, I can't wait too much longer for those. Hopefully Alpha Phase 2? 100% absolutely. Phase 2 will allow you to play two full Deployments -- that's 10 more levels and get to a pretty high level. My current squad has two Engineers at level 7 and they can both deploy two Sentry Pods each.

Do the sentry pods have a turn-life limit?

Just wanted to post a quick update. I finished playing on Hard late last night, due to silly mistakes I made level 3 took me 3 tries, level 4 took 2 tries because a Templar died and I restarted. So far I don't think there really needs to be too much tweaking to the difficulty levels. I finished all the levels with a good amount of HP damage on some Templars, if we were still having to worry about how much ammo we had for our guns I know all my clips would have been down to just 1 or 2 rounds or even completely out. I'm going to try the higher difficulty levels today, I may change my mind and come back here begging for someone to save me Wish me luck fellow Templars, I've got TP in one hand, weinies in the other. I'm off to hunt some Xenos

Do the sentry pods have a turn-life limit? Nope, no turn limit -- they function exactly like Templars with no MP, 2 Talents and a smaller HP pool. They deal with Heat the same was a Leviathan. Each Engineer can make 2, as you level up the Talent the Pods get better in terms of Level and stats. Each pod lasts as long as it survives, but does not need to be destroyed or moved to finish a level. You can build them anywhere on the map. It is possible to use them to block hallways. Some smarter Xeno will try to avoid them.

Sentries sound really, really tempting. I'll have to tailor an engineer to be my Sentry dude, running around and placing turrets to make xenos have a bad day. They sound like they would be perfect for TP guarding, and I'm sure most people would use them that way, but I'm sure I can find some other uses for the little buggers.

I played level three 3 times before I got it. 3. Level three was the most fun, there was enough time to work out the kinks in my squad and go on the move. 4. Level 4 felt the hardest and I had a templar die on the first one, but I think it was mostly hard because of the new xeno types that threw me for a loop and not taking my time. 5. Like many others here, the soldiers take the cake for me. They are definitely going to be the staple of any group I launch.
