Here's a tip I've figured out. If you're trying to move and there is a xeno in front of you, run past it before attacking if you can. You can move 6 spaces, then get your full actions for the turn, but if you attack first, you won't be able to move much afterwards.
Using AP also uses any MP you have available, but using MP doesn't use AP. So use up that MP before using AP, if you can.

khearn - this is covered in the first fight in the tutorial. Was that not clear at the time? Or is this just an extra strategy tip you've figured out?

No, some of us are a little denser than others and having it pointed out like khearn did makes a little light bulb turn on You know it's a bit like a Hydra Specialist getting taught what the big red trigger button does for the first time.

The risk is that you don't kill the Xeno and now you're surrounded. It is intentionally structured this way to make you risk putting your Templar in dangerous situations.

khearn - this is covered in the first fight in the tutorial. Was that not clear at the time? Or is this just an extra strategy tip you've figured out? The nuts and bolts were covered, but not the implications. The player's first instinct is to run up to the bug and swat it when he/she first comes next to it. But the way the mechanics of the game works, it is often better to run past the bug and hit/shoot it from the far side. That's the tip I was giving. It's not necessarily something that needs to be covered in the tutorial, since it's a way to apply the rules, rather than just an explanation of the rules. That's why I put it in this forum. And as Cory points out, it is a technique that should be used only in appropriate circumstances. It's probably not something one would want to do if there are several xenos that you're running past. Another tip for slayernz: Don't look down that tube at the front of the Hydra when you push the big red button.

khearn don't worry about looking down the barrel of the Hydra ... manufacturers purposefully designed it to have a barrel length longer than the length between a hand and head can be in a Leviathan suit. Manufacturers learn after centuries of experience with front-line forces

I didn't really catch it in the tutorial either. It could have been made more clear.

khearn - this is covered in the first fight in the tutorial. Was that not clear at the time? Or is this just an extra strategy tip you've figured out? No, it was not clear at all. The tutorial explains that actions and combat reduce the movement of the Leviathan suit and that spending AP will reduce MP by the same amount. It says nothing about being able to use your MP pool first before carrying out any actions. On the first run-through I actually understood the guide to mean that you needed MP to be able to use AP; spotting how MP really worked was a pleasant surprise. I think that piece of the dialogue could certainly do with expanding. Perhaps explain first that you could use your MP to position ready for combat and then use AP, then add a caution that using AP while you still have MP will also reduce the MP and tie that in with the Leviathan suit description.
