In HoS, you had Curses and Buffs. That worked because you often cast or otherwise mystically curse your target. In BF, you're using skills again, but there is no mystery. Big guns, bullets, special blade-work ... they all can be used in conjunction with particular skills (talents) to impede a Xeno. I don't know if the word "Curse" is as effective here. What other word to use though? Dunno. "Hinder" ... "Slow" ... "Impede" ... "Catafy"?
This isn't a bug - nor is it a wish ... just a passing thought as I continue loving this game!

How about cripple/ maim / distract? different words for different abilities that cause a status change?
Scout knee caps enemy xeno for -xap/-ymp

Cool suggestions, will take a look and see what is feasible.
Considering the depth of rules to describe, I don't really want to get into using multiple nouns / verbs for it.

Don't get me wrong - "curse" makes logical sense because of our grounding in HoS - it's just that in TA, curses means shouting out nasty words as you send hot lead in the general direction of the Xenos

Good point by slayernz Using the term 'curse' does not seem to fit the same in BF. How about Suppress or Subdue?

Yeah, hard to find one word that covers it, but "curse" did strike me as odd for this genre. There's also "weaken," "degrade," "wound," and "hinder." Weaken seems less technical and you could almost miss it as a technical term but it seems to work in a lot of situations. There's also "debuff." That's a technical gaming word, but at least it doesn't imply magic.
Edit: Dropped "hinder" into my thesaurus and got some more interesting results: Stymy (really like that one), impede, obstruct, block, handicap, disadvantage, forbid, keep, prevent. "Handicap" seems to have a lot of potential.

After reading the thread I'm convinced "Curse" is the wrong word.

Suppresses the enemy with ***** and ***** for ** turns.
I kinda like either Suppress or Hinder here. Suppress fits perfectly with the combat calls we are all so familiar with.
"Suppressing FIRE!!"

Suppressing fire will become quite literal when the Hydra are available
