This has been puzzling me for some time...
Dreadnought Architecture seems to do the same thing as Battle Prow, but gives +2 more armor. Does Battle Prow have any unlisted advantages? If not, what is the purpose of Battle Prow if Dreadnought Architecture is clearly better?

resistor it's all about the need and availability. If you are really wanting to maximize your armor and can wait for the Dreadnought Architecture (DA), then sure, avoid buying the Battle Prow (BP). However, you might find that in the 6 or 7 space ports you fly into, none have the DA, and 4 have the BP. You also might find that you're getting shot at quite a bit and you could be desperate for a bit more protection now rather than continuing to hunt. As such, you might choose to upgrade to the BP now even though waiting for the DA would be better. Also, even if both were available in the same market, the DA could be thousands or tens of thousands more credits than the BP. You know that the ship that you are flying isn't your dream ship and you are a bit tight on cash flow. So saving the extra cash could be a better option than getting 2 extra armor points. Finally, you might find, as you look at the shiny new DA upgrade sitting in the ship yard, and then suddenly see the 20% Cargo Hold upgrade sitting beside it, and go "bugger it, I want to carry more stuff and I'd prefer to be more agile anyway - so I won't buy the DA, and will buy the CH instead." Me, I've seldom spent any money on extra armor. I invest heavily in my pilot skill, and that's all the protection I've ever needed

Yeah. What he said The number of times I have had to scour the galaxy for my Battleship Architecture is just plain silly sometimes.

I did some research on the subject. Apparently on older versions of the game manual battle prow was an offensive armor upgrade, giving bonus to Ram attack and increasing boarding action, while Dreadnought Architecture was a defensive armor upgrade, giving resistances to Ram and being boarded. This old description makes the upgrades look balanced, while on the last version game manual Battle Prow is just the Poor's man DA. It is relevant to know if BP keeps giving offensive bonus while DA gives defensive bonus, or if both are just armor bonus + increased signature.

They both have combat bonuses. Do any other upgrades have unlisted bonuses?

They both have combat bonuses. Do any other upgrades have unlisted bonuses? I try to list them all in the help file. There are hundreds of bonuses. Observant Elite players will see them. If there are any you know are missing from the Help, I'm happy to fix. Thanks for playing!

Found some previously unknown bonuses listed in a very old player guide PDF, although it could simply be that they are outdated and no longer apply: blog.tresebrothers.com/2010/12/star-traders-rpg-help-files.htmlApparently, Prow Lance Battery gives a bonus for accuracy against retreating targets, Attack Shuttle Bays give a large boarding bonus for when you outnumber the enemy crew, and, surprisingly, the Cargo Pod in Armament gives a bonus to Pilot and Stealth. Edit: I now realize that those same bonuses were also listed in the old guide geoklng posted, so I just wasted my time looking through the PDF.

All sound pretty good -- I think the Cargo Pod ones only offset cargo penalties. I will check and make sure the help guide is as accurate as possible.
Thanks for the post and all that research. It maybe a big price to pay for more accurate help files, but I will try to make it worth it!
