Level 3 team 2
The engineer and invictus were at the north west relay to end the scenario.
I scanned to the southwest to set up the three soldiers to protect the TC.
As I was scanning down I heard a character death sound and got the message that the other engineer from game 1 had died! There were no skitters anywhere close!
The correct engineer is still on the map but is totally inactive.
Sorry I don't see how to attach a pic.

anvil - could the engineer have died by overheating?

Shooter from the shadows is another possibility, I've had that happen.
Overheating is the most likely cause, however.

I don't believe there was a hidden shooter. I've never seen that. There were no shadows. Sorry, I don't see how to add an attachment.
As for overheating, not sure. I've watched the heat rise, but only when using his flag to repair a TB.
He had not fired his pistol nor done any other action other than a complete 6 space move.
Does his heat go up for movement?

No, movement by itself doesn't increase heat. If you don't do any action other than move, you lose heat. If you end the turn with 5 or more MP, you get a bonus to heat reduction. So movement does generate heat. I recommend being still as much as you can. Maybe the Xenos won't see you if you don't move - AND you'll lose heat.

Now I am confused, on my replay, the engineer did gain heat on movement. It was always high,, topped outat the end of a move or that plus another grey over red at the bottom. He could not use his skills due to hear.At the beginning of the turn I did gain .

I'm not sure that slayernz is correct about movement and heat gain. My engineer's also gain heat when walking and I have had them so hot on that level that they took damage, but never died. When you see that other grey bar you'll see that they take damage at the end of the aliens turn, just like if they were attacked.

Uhhh Yes movement generates Heat. All Templars gain Heat while moving, covered before you reach Dalan in the first level.

Problem mostly solved.
Only one last item and perhaps this is a "heat death" thing.
The graphic for the engineer remained on screen for a number of turns. I could not access it. I do not know if I could move thru it.
Here's the turn sequence.
Alien turn and this event happened off screen. Death sound then dialog stating "x" died.
My turn: I scrolled up and was puzzled because his graphic was still there. Clicked on it and clicked the"arrow" to cycle to him. Neither worked.
Finished turn and started my next turn and checked and he was still there.
Exited game and restarted and he was gone

anvil - thanks for the details. We have fixed and simplified a lot of code around character death and removed the screen stating "x died" altogether, so hopefully this won't pop up in P2.
