From looking at euphorion's design, I might have made a mistake. Under the new rules updated based on En1gma's post they are lighter and you could actually pack even more damage onto that design. It does appear to be OP.

:/ Then I really don't know how to make one workable... I wouldn't use that design because of the abysmal defense- I have tried that design out, but never finished it. If this ship is meant to be on the front lines then I need to be able to protect it better than just the cheapest pieces of armor. Maybe I don't understand the lore behind it. If it is truly meant to be a weapon with an engine, then this makes some sense. If this is a ship first, then it makes more sense that we would be able to have both a weapon AND some better defense than just 5 armor... I just went into my game and looked again. That design uses both the most basic Grav Cannon (GC), AND the third tier Cladding, which costs 325 Mass. This is just a lackluster ship design TO ME (absolutely nothing whatsoever against your design euphorion) , and not one that I'm interested in creating because of the low tier Armor... The GCs are in their own class in terms of power, I get that. The way they are now, they force you to use the cheapest possible weapon AND armor, just for the sake of using a Cutter. Any other weapon system allows you to pick a powerful version, while also allowing the player to adequately defend the ship. The Cutter just isn't big enough for a GC, IMO. Well, it's ONLY big enough for a GC... Would it make sense to make the Cutter a Heavy Reactor? This would immediately add more mass, massively increase the Maintenance/Credit/CP cost, and give a proper platform for the most powerful weapon system in the game. The thing shoots asteroids for Shalun's sake- it's meant to be OP! Lets let it be a massive, <<prohibitively>> expensive ship, that obliterates everything in its path. Zenrin get the best Invasion Transport, Alta Mesa get a bloody Torp Fighter (which is AWESOME!!), lets make the Cutter stand apart from a regular cruiser...

What did you think of the posted design with the Level 8 Gravity Driver?

Which design- Euphorion's? I wouldn't use it because I couldn't let it take a hit... Nothing against it, but that's exactly the Cutter I didn't want to make because the whole thing is just a compromise to use a GC, not designing an optimal ship... If I'm missing a posted design let me know, the only one I've seen is his.

What weapons are you comparing them too? Level 8 GD seem to be way higher damage than Level 8 Autoguns. The Cutter is supposed to be a glass cannon, but En1gma seems to have been arguing that we went past glass cannon and into "unusable" territory. right?

For my style perhaps. I'm sure there are people out there that have had success with them, but they are indeed glass cannons. It's more than just that though... It seems that the designs so far don't make best use of the available technology- stupid powerful gun, check. Armor? Nope. Well trained crew? Not really. Auxiliary systems? Not without more sacrifice...
When put against other ships of the same level, they are able to strike a balance between gun/armor/crew/aux. When you look at the Cutter, it's 80+% gun, and you need to sacrifice everything else that makes a ship powerful and fit in with the fleet.

.9? If so, then they are certainly cheaper mass-wise. For the sheer power of the GD, I would expect the end result to be more expensive, but since there isn't as much room for heavier armor, the cost of the one I built is 262 Credits, and quite potent.
I can finally make a powerful ship with a GD! Don't be afraid to up the cost of the weapon, seeing that the armor will likely always be of a lower class...
Thanks for the amazing adjustment Cory!
