Go ahead, watch the Pirates of the Caribbean films, dig Johnny Depp’s Keith Richard impression, watch all the guys go “Arrgh!” You still won’t know a thing about how pirates really operated. Real pirates were better than in movies, more daring and terrifying and cunning than any screenwriter could imagine. They operated during the Golden Age of Piracy, from 1650 to 1720. You want to meet them? Here are seven things you never knew about pirates. #1 – Pirates had a stronghold in the “Wickedest City on Earth” #2 – Pirates didn’t make men walk the plank #3 – Pirates didn’t say “Arrgh” or “Shiver me timbers” – but they were fantastic at swearing #4 – Pirate crews included blacks, Jews, Indians, and other minorities – but (almost always) no women #5 – Pirates had a great workmen’s comp plan #6 – Pirates didn’t like violence (but not for reasons you’d guess) #7 – Pirate ships were some of the first democracies observer.com/2015/06/7-things-you-never-knew-about-pirates/

Thanks, that seems to be a good educational list overall, but... "Pirate ships were some of the first democracies" well I guess the world didn't exist until 1650. Certainly there is no record of ancient democracies such as the Greek city-state of Athens, right?

Too bad I did know it. And for the record, some pirates were more violent than some. Not every pirate was the same. I AM Zer0Winds, I was just too lazy to log in.
