With three factions you should be able to have up to 3 separate 2-faction treaties active (e.g., Thulun-Cadar, Thulun-Rychart, Cadar-Rychart). In my current game I haven't gotten over 2 treaties active.
Can you have three treaties at one time?

I know I have... Check your faction reports to see if something is out of balance between the two without a treaty?

Thanks for the timely response.
Things were out of balance for a while, but were recently returned to balance. So, I'm gonna try to fill the third treaty slot with a trade route. Then i'll work on improving those routes to alliances.

As far as I know, you can't have a Trade Alliance without first having a Trade Route in place. If you have been trying to skip that step you'll never actually be able to do it, in my experience.

You're correct. The description of the Trade Alliance makes that clear. Right now i've got a Duel of Assassins and Trading Route now. I'm hoping to get the Trade Route in the third politics slot. If that works out and no other trouble arises, I'll try to promote one of the Routes into an alliance.

If you want to see 3 treaties at once, build the cheapest treaty as fast as possible. Once you are at a point of churning out a new meeting every other turn, the 3 treaties situation isn't far from sight. But don't sleep when you get that, keep it tightening and improving. Also, balance between factions is recommended, but by far is not required. I've had 3 treaties multiple times with Cadar dominating the landscape 9:1 versus two other factions combined.

It can definitely be done. Just requires being on top of that part of the game I think.

Right, this is clearly not the recommended approach, but I think it provides an important counterpoint in the guide to faction politics on which I'm working. startradersrpg.proboards.com/thread/11991At this point I'm crawling through all potentially relevant threads gathering information, later I'll organize it.

I always build evenly to keep things balanced. Always colonize 3 at a time (1 for each faction) within a matter of 5 turns apart, otherwise it can ignite a solar war.
With that being said, during early to mid-game where all monies are used for construction, I would spam trade meetings, trade summits and spice treaties(once available) because they are FREE!!! and just roll the dice. It would either fail, reinforce currect treaty or the one we are after - create a new trade route. And I only spent less than $100. And if I already have trade routes, I would spam upgrades to trade alliance.
For some reason however, if I have treaties queued up, it spikes a conflict. but that could be due to ship count imbalance.
Side note: isn't trade alliance more profitable than alliance? what's the difference? description is too vague.

Ticket #3149 4X - RFE - Block Trade Treaties with $0
I do not, nor do the test, use this feature so it is being removed.

odomi, Please explain "spam trade meetings, trade summits and spice treaties because they are FREE". Trade Meetings cost $100, Trade Summits $200. Are they free because you spend all the money in your Treasury on construction and then initiate them when Treasury is zero? Alliance is superior to Trade Alliance. An Alliance decreases maintenance by 10%, whereas Trade Alliance decreases it by only 5%. Check out the stats at the Star Traders 4x Game Manual, which is different from the senate library.
