So I unlocked Fleet Operations 1, and I saw the 'combat crew' upgrade, so I decided to make a new cruiser with that upgrade. But the ship design wizard didn't give that option. So, I thought i would try an assault fighter...same result. I couldn't find a ship that let me use the 'combat crew' upgrade except the fighter. And looking around the tech tree I see other crew upgrades. So, my question(s) are:
1) What ships lets you use the crew upgrades?
2) What determines which upgrades are available for the defferent ship designs?
3) Are there predetermined limitations on the designs? Like, could you have a carrier with refuel and repair, or only one? Or maybe even a boarding/invasion ship?
Thanks

1) What ships lets you use the crew upgrades?
I can't give you a list off the top of my head, but when you view the ship designs in the ship designer, it tells you which upgrades are available. If you look at the cruiser template, the first line tells you which weapons(railguns/torpedoes) it can use, the second line tells you which armor types it can use, and the third tells you which upgrades(propulsion/prow) it can use.
2) What determines which upgrades are available for the defferent ship designs?
The ship design itself determines which are available.
3) Are there predetermined limitations on the dedigns? Like, could you have a carrier with refuel and repair, or only one? Or maybe even a boarding/invasion ship?
Limitations are based on the ship design, but there are several designs that mix and match current weapon ttypes. For instance, the Alta mesa fighter can have guns and torpedoes, while normal fighters can guns and defense pods.

Invasion ships can only use Invasion attacks. The Drop Pods take up the entirety of the Ship's weapon infrastructure to use.

You can quickly find out what type of upgrades you can use, on any hull type that you have the Tech to build by doing the following: - On the main screen tap the button that looks like a ship, which will bring up the ALL SHIPS screen.
- Then tap the Designer button at the top of the screen, which brings up the SHIP DESIGN LIST screen.
- Then tap the New Design button at the top of the screen, which brings up the SELECT HULL PATTERN screen.
Notice to the right of the Fighter image, on the 4th line it say "Propulsion / Crew". That tells you what types of upgrades a fighter will accept, and so on down the list. Hope this helps

Thanks elwoodps, that helps. I guess I'm getting dense as I get older because I didn't realize that's what the information was telling me. Oh well. Hey, Cory Trese, no worries. Everyone else seemed to understand it. Must be these bi-focals, I can't see the forest for the trees...
