I love the star background for the icon. My one concern with the sun in the background picture was that people would think it was a crusade game without knowing the context. Simple. Clear. Badass.

@kanly - thanks for the feedback. The change in BG gives us the sci-fi feel (space!) as well as helping us get control of the color palette.

Just got the 0.0.19 update. I have to say that I really liked the previous icon (the close up one that never made it as an actual app icon). The fact that it looked like oil-on-canvas really set it apart for me as a unique icon among the gazillion others you might see on Google Play. It really said "This app is different in a very classy way," like you might be opening up a very old and very good book. Also the shadow on the front of the knight sets a great grim tone. The new one just looks very cartoony to me and not so unique. The contrast is too high for my liking and it's not entirely clear that he's holding a sword. It also looks blurry on my device. So that's without seeing the one i like really small. Maybe that would change my opinion, but I did really like it's style.

contributor - thanks for the feedback on the new draft! We're trying a number of different styles to see what works best. The icon is probably the most important piece of art in the game, so we've got to be sure to get something that has the right appeal.

2 more thoughts on the new icon. The biggest bright spot is at the bottom of his armor, near his crotch, drawing attention there.
I do like the feel of the first icon more, I just think the picture should have something to indicate the game is not about the crusades. In the zoomed out version he held a gun, which solved this issue for me.

Or conversely you could make them look more like the crusaders and see if you can spark some sort of controversy so that people become aware of your game. Maybe you're not willing to go that far to get people to look at your game though. This all gets me thinking about so much. What are the historians going to have to say about the great xeno funeral pyre lit by the templars? After all, the Star Traders are the ones coming to the xenos corner of quadrant and if the things can make space traveling ships you would expect to be able to negotiate with them. Have we tried sitting down and talking with them yet!?!?!? ( dayan need a side cartoon project?). I feel like I need to alert somebody before this becomes another in a long line of genocides.

Since it is a mech suit, there wouldn't really be anything there tho, right???

I figured out why the icon was soo blurry. I accidentally resized everything off, so the devices are resizing again. Ugly town.
The next update will include a new icon design.

I like this new one better. It has the same flavor as the in game art, which the previous one didn't seem to match right. I'm wondering a little bit about the choice of the Hydra as the BF poster-child. I do love the Hydra's, but their armor somehow evokes the idea of a gorilla in armor, for me. On my small screen his "mouth" also looks very round which gives an odd impression.
