The captain in TA and BF is most commonly meant to be used with a sword right? If so, I really think that Bladeweave 1&2 should come earlier in the research tree. I'm even thinking it should be in the "Born Leader" tree option, or even earlier than that.
Captains need to be able to hit more than one target at a time when it comes to being the tip of the spear. It takes too long for you to be able to do that with the current research tree structure.
