Okay dumb question moment :-)
How do I recognize an asteroid that has ice on it and can be used for refueling?

Yellow square of space adjacent to it. They are fairly rare

Well, I found a yellow square next to some asteroids and was able to slowly refuel a ship. I had to zoom up quite a bit to realize there was a small yellow dot in the square, though. I must have been not seeing them for awhile now.
Stupid bi-focals.

They can be good spots to station a scout ship or two. Should help keep the xenos from sneaking up on your colonies

Hmmm...thats a great idea to keep the fog pushed back from the lanes into my empire. Gonna have to do that now that I know I can.

They're especially helpful on the 32x128 map. The Xeno tend to rush into your territory very early on, and the ice squares make the defense very manageable, in both the early and mid game.

I call it brown space. I prefer maps with it in. Makes for great kill zones when retreating.
My question ; Is maintenance still high when ships are stationed here?

Okay, something I don't understand. What's the difference between heavy reactors, reactors, and fast reactors?

Thanks hissrad, that makes sense. Hmmm...then I could of answered my own question if I'd just waited a few (hundred) more turns.

Okay, something I don't understand. What's the difference between heavy reactors, reactors, and fast reactors? I think there's also a difference in how fast they refuel that favors heavier reactors too. Suppose you have three ships, one with a Fast Reactor 11, one with a Reactor 12, and one with a Heavy Reactor 15 all sitting in green space around one of your colonies. Although all three of these are "Refuel 5/Turn" reactors, the Heavy Reactor 15 will generate significantly more water fuel per turn than the Reactor 12, which will generate significantly more water fuel per turn than the Fast Reactor 11. I'm not exactly sure about the mechanics of this; I guess it's some kind of multiplier.

Is the better refueling efficiency of the heavy reactor why Cory Trese suggested using them in the asteroid areas earlier?
