My current game I'm a 7.21 AE and have only had one small skirmish with the Xenos. I'm on the 128x64 map on hard. I found a xeno colony just to my west past an asteroid field. My explorer got destroyed when it ran into it but they haven't invaded yet.
Can't help but wonder what's up?

In my last game I played over 650 turns before I even had an engagement with the xeno. Use the time to invest heavily in infrastructure and research with minimal defense. They will come.

What is their current AI status? Are you watching the Intel your ST's are bringing?

......hehe, I ended up getting curious so I sent a team of 6 Mesa hawk fighters and two carriers(both multi refuel) to go scout their nearest system. As you can probably guess this had the same effect as kicking a bee hive.

Last time it popped up, I think it said less aggressive for the Nyktos

I usually send out my 3 initial ships on full blown scouting early on. I need to know what systems are out there and where they are. I need to know where I can go for my next 3 systems once I am ready to expand. Most important part is to find out where the xenos are. I don't engage them, just mark the spot of their nearest system and run. I will likely plan to take certain further out systems earlier so they will be stronger by the time (if ever) the xeno start showing up.
I am on Delga 128x64 with 90 worlds in Hard difficulty. Year 6.43 or turn 303. I only take the fight to them around year 6. Over 100K in bank.
Assuming the xeno starting positions are fixed (Cory?), there are natural DMZ built into this map. It is wide enough by themselves to prevent xeno incursions for long time.
Ask about my strategy if you like to know more.

I've been moving slow, only expanding once each colony is able to survive on its own(defenses, mines, spice hall etc etc). So far I have the starting area and east colonized....along with a couple of colonies way up north by Zenrin. As of year 8 I haven't had an invasion, only combat was when I kicked the bee hive at about 6 AE. I'm curious how your games going

I'm curious how your games going My usual custom factions: Thulun, Cadar, Javat. These 3 gave me the CPs and the $$ making power. I have not gone beyond HARD yet and have no plan to do so. At year 7.13: Jyeeta 12 worlds at lvl 25. Way way out west. Sidtax 9 worlds at lvl 22. North and slight east of starting position. Nyktos 19 worlds (in mid 20s earlier) at lvl 27. Started way up in North West, occupy NW area of starting cluster, also cluster immediate west. If you find the xeno in the first couple of game years, you can usually probe the border systems without drawing much of a response. Take a quick look and get out is all you want at that stage. I don't understand how hissrad managed to get his scout destroyed. I currently occupy the cluster at starting position, the cluster to the east, the small cluster near the right edge of map, and the lonely star (53,56) west of starting position (near 2 nebulae and asteroid line). My early scouting found Jyeeta activities way out west but can afford the single star at that point. If I take that cluster beyond that, I could not occupy enough systems before the xeno competition came. Currently that cluster is occupied by Nyktos, I see some harassment events on (53,56) system but no World Killer yet. I am invading the cluster to the NW of starting cluster against the Nyktos back around the beginning of Year 6. Starting cluster with strong industrial base is pumping out a steady stream of transports. First new system in occupied territory was Thulun, to be followed by 1 each from Cadar and Javat. About 40% done in that area and fought few counter attacking world killers. Like I said before I strive to expand in group of 3 colony ships. Harder to do during invasion but I seek to balance the count ASAP. Politics is stable with 1 solar war and 1 trade war along the way. I have seen Trade/Regular alliances here and there. Once I deal with that cluster North West of starting, I will decide where to go next. It could be another game year or 2. Javat is weaker in CP than the other 2 but early colonies will get very productive comes year 5 and on. They do fairly well pumping out ships although slightly slower than the other 2 CP specialized partners. My transports and cruisers designs are customized. I also have 2 tanker (carriers with ship refuel) to support the fleet. Defense facilities exist on front line systems only. I take my chances. So far this map has DMZ built in. You need to expand when you can afford to build 3 colony ships, have $1000+ in your account, and a growing income. Don't wait too long. Scout earlier to see what systems are out there. Consider making a leap to the next cluster early. You don't want to be too far behind the xeno in colony count. Even in a mid-late game situation Thulun or Cadar will need 30-50 turns to get what hissrad calls a "survive on its own" colony, too slow. Javat will take 17 turns to build a subsidized Factory 1. You almost always need Factory 1 built 1st for any faction other than Thulun and Cadar, those 2 can go with Mines or Habs first.
