Would it be possible to add a customization feature for the difficulties? For instance, if I wanted to play on impossible without having ridiculous fuel consumption. I mean, I want the enemy to be really hard, and I want a metric asston of aliens, but I don't want too much fuel consumption and ridiculous missions that pay diddly squat. Maybe just make it like Civ, where you can choose research time (missions), barbarian level (aliens), ai aggression (captain levels), number of enemies (number of captains), etc.

The fact that Star Traders is aging, and Difficulty levels were built in at the start, it may be very hard or impossible for this to be implemented. Maybe ST2 could support this?

If Final Fantasy X\X2 can be re-released in HD, so can ST. We just have to wait for the TB's to become so rich and famous that they go back and redo everything

Extreme Difficulty ups Water Fuel Consumption, political turmoil, hostile AI encounters, Alien Encounters, and many other facets of the game that work against the player. It also lowers the pay for Contracts, lowers starting cash, and makes it more likely that you will die very early. It is only for those who have mastered the game.

This is a guaranteed feature in ST2.
