Hello fellow Moklumnue representatives.
I am of the opinion we should scout without fear and that it would be an unnecessary expense to construct a new fighter at this point. The Xenos are also just starting out, so they are not prepared to put up a fight either.

Welcome to the board room, resistor! Glad to see a like-minded individual show up. En1gma, thanks for stopping by with your input and feedback, I won't reiterate the points I've already made but will give you access to our database so you can see the logs of our exchanges. I still stand by my original proposal. contributor, you are right on the money, so to speak, with your listing of the benefits of scouting. I've managed to scout actively in practically all of my simulations (read, games) and have never yet had the xeno come crashing into my space as a result. The worst case scenario, in my book, is we lose one of our ships. While this would be a sad expenditure in lives and material, we can replace a lost ship much more easily than we can recover from an undetected enemy closing with our prime systems.

Also, contributor, I agree. I'm thinking we should try to lay claim to both Olggavan Hold and Leiwin, which is not shown on the map but is just west of Olggavan Hold. What say you? *edit* Also, we've been asked about further research goals. Seeing as how establishing the economy of our empire is priority one and securing our space is also of prime importance, I propose the following path. 1) Starship Construction 2 2) Fighters 1 3) Space Colonization 1 4) Space Colonization 2 Moving to Fighters 1 will allow us to design and build second generation fighters which are cheap and effective, we can lean on them for the time being while we establish our economy. Shooting to Space Colonization 2, while requiring a large investiture in time and RP, will allow us to establish colonies that are already self-sufficient and well equipped to thrive using the Colony Module 2. Honestly, it might be worth our time to go straight for Space Colonization 4, but I think the other clans might not back that proposal.

johndramey, I like your path. I think that 2nd gen colony ships really help everything get going a lot faster. So that makes great economic sense. The others are talking about finishing out Faction Politics and it seems like our economic focused clan can't disagree with that. Exchanges can really help supercharge our trade and research.

contributor, for sure, I'm more than open to tacking on the faction politics tree on top of the research queue. How does this sound: 1) Faction Politics 3 2) Starship Construction 2 3) Fighters 1 4) Space Colonization 1 5) Space Colonization 2

I respect the power of the exchange, but I believe it would be better to wait on researching Faction Politics 3 until after we research Space Colonization 2. It would be better in the long run for our great house, as well as Clan Javat, to have access to Colony Module 2 sooner rather than later, so that it would be significantly easier to expand.

Hmmmm, I crunched some of the numbers and indeed the value of the colony module 2 is pretty high. It costs 200 more than the CM 1 but it gives you +1 mineral and +1 housing, which would cost 400 credits to build planet-side, plus it gives us that many more turns with a mine in play and potentially saves lost resources from lowered morale when there is a quick population boom. So it makes a lot of economic sense. My only concern is that with the order we have now it will still take a long time to get there anyways. It doesn't seem wise to put off military (ship) research for too long, but getting to Space Colonization 2, even without Faction Politics could take awhile. Would it be possible to put the ships after both FP3 and SC1-2?

contributor, you know Thulun would never agree to that, even though I agree it would probably be best. I have no clue about Javat, though. Investing in our growth is much more important than investing in defence right now, but we might have to compromise. I say, let's try to get Thulun to agree to researching SC 1-2 after Starship Construction 2 and Fighters 1, and if they refuse and insist on researching even more technologies before SC, then we go to Javat and ask them to support us in making SC the very top of the research priority list. I believe we should try to compromise with Thulun if we can instead of just attempting to outvote them by going to Javat, because the Xenos will be enough of an enemy as it is. johndramey, what do you think of all this?

resistor, I checked in on Thulun's discussion. Their main thing seems to be Faction Politics 3 at the moment and after that ships I think, but it doesn't seem like their even super united. One of their members is working hard to push everybody in a particular direction that mostly seems to be to oppose us regardless of the merits of a particular course of action. I should probably learn to bite my tongue a bit more and bring down the levels of tension a little, but it's just so hard. Compromise would definitely be good. It's true that Space Colonization is highly in Javat's favor. It gets them their first mine for super cheap and fast, as well a jump on housing too. That should be brought to their attention. My gut says get Faction Politics 3, Space Colonization 1-2 (in no particular order) and then focus on ships, but that might be a hard sell. If we're going to hold off on ship research for a little while I would be more supportive of building a fighter now. If we're going to start researching ships right away, I say wait till we can build a 2nd gen fighter. It sure would be nice if we could see beyond those asteroids though and have some idea of how the xeno is progressing. It seems though like that is not how people like to play it. Odd that those who don't want to know where the enemy is, are pushing the hardest to start building ships to defend against the unseen enemy at our gates. Sigh!

resistor, I understand with your hesitation to try to politically outmaneuver House Thulun. I, too, would like to find an amenable solution. As such, I have posted a propsal in the main thread with the caveat that we are happy to negotiate. I even used your idea of pumping SC1/Fighters 1 to the top of the research queue. So, contributor and resistor, go check the main thread and read our proposal. If you guys agree, please say so there. Being a united front is always good. If you disagree or wish to change, please also say so there. We need to appear to be rational and understanding, as that will surely make the others more willing to work with us. Remember, we each have the ability to negotiate and come to separate deals. Afterward, simply bring whatever you find here and we can vote on it as a house!

Gents, I'm going to be traveling for the next week, so I'll be out for a day or two and then I'm not really sure what kind of connection I'll have. I saw Thulun's counter proposal. I have to say this community game may put me off of Thulun for awhile. They've made next to no compromises and act like they're being pushed around while at the same time spouting "soon we'll have more colonies than anybody else." "We'll use our own money..." "We build so much faster..." It makes me think we need to push harder for Space Colonization 1-2 to help us get our colonies going faster. If they're not willing to compromise a little more, I say we set our colonies to building not-stop habs. Let em go it on their own.
Anyways don't wait for me to make any more decisions..

Templar Command suggests we focus on military ship technology. I believe we should think about getting Planetary Mining 1 and Manufacturing 1 soon, but I'm not proposing any specific research path yet.

Fellow Moklumnue representatives, I suggest we propose tech research in this order. Please tell me what you think. 1) Manufacturing 1 2) Planetary Mining 1 3) Fighters 2-3 4) Starship Construction 3-4 5) Reactors 1
I believe the Xeno will be low level for a while, so we can and should focus on infrastructure before building new ships to match them

Hmm, I actually like your proposed research path, resistor. However, maybe we've kicked the other houses in the teeth enough for the time being? Thulun seems to think we should research military technology first, so I'd be willing to swap Man 1 and Planetary Mining 1 with Fighters 2-3 in order to throw them a little bone. What say you? Off the record, I agree with your sentiment that the xeno will be fairly low level for a while and most likely do not pose an immediate threat. However, we must appease the others. If we can lighten their modes just a smidgen, it will make getting what we want later all the easier!

Also, we should name our colonies from this point on. Of course Moklumnue Prime must stay as such, but what should our second system be called? Why doesn't resistor take it, name it whatever he wants, contributor take the next colony and do the same, and I'll take the third? Then we can just keep going as more and more are colonized?
