I haven't played much at the higher difficulties yet (crazy / impossible) I'm wondering what people's mining strategiesare at these higher lvls where research is slower. Do you keep dropping down mine 1's and then upgrade them later and destroy extras to reclaim quality or do you wait to get mine 3 and just buy those?

I generally use mine 1's then upgrade as I can, Credits are more difficult to get flowing reliably so every little bit helps.

I always build the best mines available, as long as the CP count of the colony can construct it in a reasonable amount of time.
Moar credits!

This is one of these impossible questions. Yu go as you see it best. If you have a colony with 1-3 minerals, your spaceport will take care of it outright, may be build a little extra mines for a quick cash, but overall, buiding factories and hab units in anticipation of citizens influx is more worthwhile.

I tend to use as few Mine buildings as possible, but anrdaemon nails it -- depends a lot on the Colony's quantities. Planning ahead, and knowing that you'll soon have Orbital Mines, Exchanges, upgraded Star Ports and so forth mean that over building Mines early (especially over allocating Quality to Minerals) can be a mistake.
