CdrPlatypus - right? Hydra's rock. The debate is on -- Hydras or Neptunes? I think Hydra's made a major comeback in BF.

You know me, boss, always supported the Hydra. I think the Hydras are way cooler in BF but the coolness factor is offset a little by the time limit imposed by the turn targets. With that said, I used Hydras in every command I've started and, must admit, I've never even bothered looking at the Neptunes. Bias runs strong within me.

I don't know what it is about the Neptune. I know they're awesome, but they lend themselves to a much slower play style, I think. They seem much better suited for a defensive mission than an offensive, because of their platform(?) ability that locks them down, as well as having OW that keeps them in place. If there was a hold your ground mission they would be perfect, as they can just stand there and lay waste.
Hydras on the other hand perfectly excel at the mobile missions, where you have a ton of ground to cover and even more points of Xeno attack. They can keep up with the troop, then turn around and fry anything behind them while simultaneously closing off that same attack vector.
Pretty much everything I can do with a Neptune, I can do with a soldier. Maybe not as well, but gun to my head: Hydra every time.

En1gma - I don't think you're giving Neptunes a fair chance lol You can't do anywhere near as much damage with a Soldier as you can with a Neptune. Last night, testing Swap Templar, I boosted in and took a Neptune to Galantia Cross. I swapped him for a Soldier. Yes, he was overheating majorly by the end of the level, beacuse I was marching north and needed to move him 5 or 6 before he fires ... but wow. Even with his starter weapon and level 1 Talent, he was murderizing clumps of xenos in a way I have never seen a Soldier even come close. Killing 2-4 a turn at times. Boom boom pow. Raise Willpower, trust full auto.

Neptune s have their uses, but nothing is as satisfying as killing it with fire except perhaps nuking from orbit.

Gaaah, I've actually been a little disappointed with my Hydra as of late. I'm playing on Brutal and just have too many enemies walking right through all my fire and making their attacks. So I decided to finally sink the RP I'd been saving into the Neptune tree and give one a spin, which I hadn't done since early in the Alpha. First turn after he is deployed a Goliath comes out of the dark and crushes him in a single turn. Hardly an auspicious start.

contributor - high penetration, high damage ... right gear ... boom boom boom. Very different than a Hydra, but ... The war is on.
