Okay current ship is a custom design: Hull:13 Armor:8 Engines:31 Sails:32 Cargo:68 Crew:70 Guns:19 Torps: 9 *note* these values are after upgrades Admittedly my skills are shotgun spread across the board...skills are all 11, my level is 13 and attributes are 11 for charisma and quickness, 12 for wisdom and strength. Not good I know but I figured keeping them even until I got an idea which ones to favor. Also, welcome to the Star Traders Forums!

I rarely raise Negotiation and Intimidation above ten (Usually, it's less (Around four.).). I like to keep Pilot and Tactics at around the level of my Hull (Which means I generally stop leveling them at 40, or so.). I never stop leveling Strength and Warrior, though, since I love to board (Especially when I'm hunting Xeno.). But, this is simply how I go about it. Everyone here has their own way of doing things. Also, I just started playing the game, again, after stopping for over two years, so you might want to take what I say with a grain of salt. As for the ship, that looks about right. Personal, I use more heavy-hitters than balanced ships, but everyone has a different play style. Yeah you got me there. I think I've only explored twice so clearly not worth points for me in future.

Explorer is a great noob strategy. And, I'm not going to lie...I still occasionally use it. It's a good way to make really quick cash, in the preliminary stages of your captain's life.

Oh, yeah...I forgot about Stealth. It's good for the early stages of he game, but I generally want more encounters, later on (When I'm superior to those crunchy, little peanuts that Steel Song passes off as military vessels.), so I stop using it. My Stealth rarely goes above ten, and has only gone above 15 on a hand-full of occasions. It depends on what you intend to do, later on in the game, though. Smugglers need high Stealth, while jumbo-sized ships who go around slaughtering everything for sport might not. Additionally, if you want to raise your Stealth rating, then I'd pair it with a low signature.

I like to play more military style/pirate so I don't think I'd want a lot of stealth later on but starting out could be good. Like 10-12 max?

That's what I'd do. But, ask someone else, just to be sure. I'm the town simpleton, around here. It's a good boost for the first stage of the game (Before you get over that level 20 hump and become nearly invincible.).

Oh and where does tactics fall in this? It's fairly important for gun combat right?

Oh and where does tactics fall in this? It's fairly important for gun combat right? Sorry, but I honestly couldn't tell you. I ain't about that gun-bunny life. I've always been a torper (Caaaaaaaaaaadaaaaaaaaar!) or a boarder (Significantly less "Caaaaaaadaaaaaar!".), depending on my Pilot level. Whenever I use guns, I seem to sink the enemy ship (It's hard to loot wreckage.).

Well looting is what I primarily want to do so I though guns on engines was easiest to disable. You can't point torps to a specific subsystem(to my knowledge anyway) boarding could be an option though too I just worry about not having any crew to pilot the ship after battle casualties

They generally go for...well...everything else, for some reason or another. Guns generally don't sink ships when targeting the Engines (What I used to do.), but every time I bring my ship up to short range, that sensual "Board" button beckons me. Boarding is one of my favorite parts of the game. So, yeah...you can always go about targeting the Engines. But, for anything gun-related, do yourself a favor and talk to slayernz, Cory, fallen, or one of those other gun-lovers.

Interesting maybe I should give torps a try I kinda just assumed that they would blow the ship to bits.

Interesting maybe I should give torps a try I kinda just assumed that they would blow the ship to bits. For some reason, that doesn't seem to happen. You can take just about any Agile ship, slap that 16 torp up-grade on-to it, and you've got a true Cadarian death machine on your hands.

I have tried and tried and tried to try boaarding. But I continually find that it is easier to blow the engines out in one or two shots than have to go through the whole messy approach of having to wash the blood and gore off my feet and stuff. I'll give it a go. Maaaaaaaaaaybe we need to set up a community challenge one month where we all have to do the boarding path, and highest number of victories within 10,000 turns wins THEN we do the same but with gun-bunny style and see if the kill rate is the same

We are a gun-heavy community (Thanks in part to you teaching almost everyone here how to play the game. ), so guns would probably win, since people are more used to them than hand-to-hand combat.
