Would you change the save folder location to /sdcard/Android/data for all Android Trese games?
Some other games do this and it's very easy to move save games around. Root is not required for that folder.

But frightening external read-write permissions are.
Remember when we launched Heroes with that permissions and racked up 15 one-star reviews in the first 3 days because "this game steals my photos"?
I remember it very clearly. While I would LOVE to make saved game files more accessible, Google has made certain that we cannot do it.
And sadly, Marshmallow only makes the situation worse. In the current Google Play environment we must live in fear of reviews, and live without permissions.
I'd love to ... but Google has made it impossible.

For example, Dragon Quest 5 does this, and it has 4.7 / 5 stars.

I wish we were as good as them But comparing Trese Brothers to Square Enix ... isn't exactly apples to apples.

Well, I guess you do new, creative games for Android. Square Enix recycles games from 20 years ago :-)

An no one questions the permissions on a $15 game by a major publisher. Their games have permissions we would never dare use like "Read Contacts" and "use accounts on the device."
I cannot even imagine trying to launch a game as a tiny weak indie publisher with those permissions. But then, we don't have the fans or financial backing that Square Enix does.
Google makes the rules and we have to follow them. Little publishers MUST avoid permissions because we must avoid bad reviews and permissions == bad reviews 100% of the time.

It's sad how some people choose to ignore the permissions used when it's a big name company but will thrash a little indie one to bits with bad reviews. The reasons they list often, like selling data, the big companies do that too if not more. When I first got an Android phone I was very cautious about permissions and that was one thing that drew me to the TB's. Their lack of them. I still will be careful when getting a new app and check to see what permissions there are. Dragon Warrior\Quest is one of my favorites but the permissions they've used are ridiculous. I just download an NES emulator and play them that way.

I assume your comment about Marshmallow refers to some of the permissions being combined. If so, I can see how that would complicate things for you. I dropped in to ask about another Marshmallow feature which would be incredibly useful if you could implement, the ability to enable backup of app/game data to the user's Google account. Obviously, it would be a dream of most gamers to be able to just get a new device and then game data is restored upon initial setup along with the APK, rather than just getting the APK as we now get. (1) Will you be able to take advantage of this feature, (2) without having to enable permissions which you'd rather not , (3) Some article claimed this could be made to work even for apps distributed on Amazon's appstore, meaning your Amazon version would also be able to take advantage of it [though I'm having a hard time believing this one], and (4) Sort of unrelated, but if someone started out a long time back with the Amazon version, is it at all possible to transfer save game data from that version to the Google Play version if I were to buy the Play version just because I'm migrating my handful of Amazon stuff (perhaps if I'm rooted)?

1 -- We will be able to take advantage of it, however, it really does not work very well because Google has a lot of bugs with it. We've support it in ST RPG for years and it causes problems weekly when it does not work for a random user's phone ... and they blame me and usually get very angry.
2 -- Yes, it can be managed within our allowed permissions. I will try to get this added to the next BF update.
3 -- That's a funny idea ... it is possible, I suppose, that it might work with an Amazon game. I wouldn't try it though, for fear of Google or Amazon sanctions.
4 -- If you are rooted, you could force a conversion by moving the files and switching the ownership of them from one app to another. This isn't something we support -- because markets require that the games are separate and non-transferable. However, it is possible and I could probably answer any questions you have ... just e-mail me.

Tactics Maiden RPG does not have any "bad" permissions and allows uploading and downloading a save game (between devices) to your Dropbox account from within the game. I think there are some other games that do something similar with Google Drive.

We're working on adding platform-approved cloud saving to the games while attempting to preserve our ability to achieve promotion from the markets within their approved integration strategies. Thanks for the feedback!

Nice! We did lots of work to make sure that the platforms all use a compatible file format, so that such things will be possible in the future -- or for enterprising users.
