Here's a new table (similar to my ones for Urban Zone & Wild Zone stats) on ships. The idea for this one was based on the ship stats that Cory posted here: startradersrpg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=wish&action=display&thread=86I don't know which ships are Elite only, so there is only one file this time. As always, if you find any errors, please PM me and I'll post a corrected file. Liz Edit (14Mar11): An updated version is in post #13!Attachments:

How do u guys go about picking ships? Is there a ratio of hull to engines or sails to keep in mind? What about crew and hull? Finally, I hate not having enough cargo space to hold all my ill gotten goods. Small cargo also makes me have to made frequent stops to urban to sell.

I just did some tests and found that Star Traders RPG v2.9 supports 855,360 different ship configurations
Picking just one was too hard so we added Dry Docks. Now you can have lots of ships!

I like the ability to have lots of ships, but I find myself loving the beast I am flying right now. Its a Flagship Carrier with maximum upgrades. I love the large cargo space combined with nearly unmatchable battle prowess. Now that I have a few million in the bank however, I've been on the lookout for a Flagship Cruiser. Since I don't really need the money anymore, I don't need the cargo space. I'll take a hit in the total guns, but everything else will be an upgrade. Since it hasn't come up in my New Ship Plan list, I'm going to dry dock the carrier and build up a Flagship Cruiser hunter and capture one. That's how I got my Flagship Carrier after all.

How does one go about gaining access to the dry dock? I've had my rep with Cadar close to 100 and never saw that option highlight. I've also had a terrible time finding ship upgrades and even new ships that surpass the vae victus.

You need to purchase a new ship first. Then go to the Military Base in the Star Dock and you should see Dry Dock highlighted. You can then check out your new ship and transfer your control to the new ship if you wish.

Ah. I suppose that would if I could either find a good ship to buy, or could sustain credits long enough to afford a new one.

I had the same problem with funds until my latest playthrough with my Star Trader Captain Fate. What was keeping my funds low were constantly getting hit by enemy ships while traveling, thus meaning I had to spend to keep in shape. When I cranked up my stealth and piloting skills, I was able to dodge better and avoid getting hit. I also made sure I never stole a ship with a hull higher than my piloting skill, that killed Captain Shaft.
I also started paying attention to those announcements of item surpluses and shortages and tried to take advantage of them. I hit it big when I was able to take advantage of a weapons shortage. I quadrupled my funds with one shipment.
I also found it was better to hold off on pursuing lots of military rank advancements with a lot of factions. They do lower prices on equipment some but they eat up a lot of your cash. I also don't try to be friendly with everyone, just three or four factions possibly. That way I usually have someone to beat up on (Cadar, I'm looking at you).
Mind you, I'm NOT the best player around here, but if you search the forums, you will see lots of good advice on how to make cash quick and early in the game.

"I hit it big when I was able to take advantage of a weapons shortage."
I like weapon shortages, because of the high price return. The ones I really love are the resources I can get a ton of easily.
Water Fuel, Metal or Crystals shortages near mining camps? Oh man, talk about easy money ... Thulun Prime has 118 metals and Thulun Outpost has metal shortage? +400K Credits.
Another classic one is a Vudka shortage on Rift Leporis ... if the luck is perfect, it will combine with a Vudka surplus on Javat Prime, but either way you can grab a quick +200K

Luxury Rations Shortage on Javat Mining Colony was sweet. I'd been keeping a fat cache of rations and water on the surface. It was a fast 80K and then there were about ten surrounding planets to hit!
The best was the Artifact Shortage on Rinze Settlement with a big cache just a hop away on that same Javat Mining Colony. Why yes, I have been hording artifacts...would you like to pay by cash, check, or through the nose?

LOL.
maybe this is what the first set of reports should be about. instead of worrying about additional tracking code, start with number crunching.
> Rumor List > Filter Shortages > [REPORT] < Filter Resources < Stash List

That's one of the things I'd want my political officer to do to earn her keep on the ship.
The other is to keep that weird looking first mate away from me. The prosthetic mustache they gave him when he lost his lip in a boarding action is just creepy!

Update: A bunch (~50) more ships added. Does not include the new ships in 3.5.7. Attachments:

The "Spear" class is what I'm currently using, and it shows up as Medium Speed and High Agility for me. It looks like it should be High Speed, though, because everything else in the list with a Sail:Hull ratio of 2:1 or greater is listed as High Speed. I wonder if it's the cargo or something? Cory said in another thread that Upgrades don't affect combat stats.
