Good to see another game out there! I was aware of you working on it, but the actual release slipped from my attention...
Anyway, I'm looking through some YouTube to get a feel for it, but maybe some of you can give me some pointers as well? I really liked Templar Assault. It was my second TB-game after the original Star Traders and it clicked so much better with me. I really love squad based tactical games, especially when there's a strategic layer (strategic map, squad development, etc) on top. Jagged Alliance, XCom, those are the holy grails to me
The one thing in TA that bothered me, was that it was sometimes extremely slow to play. It's a consequence of the genre I guess, but with only turn based movement and quite short turns, crossing a large map while maintaining some form of overwatch could take ages. This aspect is I think the one aspect that keeps me from really rating this as top. This is one of the things that HOS solved so well: the difference between non-combat and combat movement keeps the speed in the game.
Other than that, I did really like TA. High difficulty level, sometimes bordering on the hopeless (even on Normal difficulty!) very nice back story which the TB have developed really well, good atmosphere. I know people complain about the graphics, but I think a consistent style (which you bring) is much more important than any flashiness to the graphics and has never been the most important aspect of this genre. Functionality is key.
Can anybody give me a hint on how well Battleforce will match my tastes? Especially on the (perceived) speed of the gameplay. The slow crawl has its own merits (suspense atmosphere, like Alien) but I'm not sure I'd like that to be a constant throughout the game.
