Okay so I'm seeing upgrades and they say +x alpha or beta or neutron shielding. What's the difference and how do I know which types of radiation is present on a planet. At least I'm assuming these are referring to types of planetary radiation on xeno worlds.

I know radiation shielding ship upgrades provide soak against Xeno ship attacks in ship-to-ship combat. I'm not sure if it affects invasion.
I hear only certain Xeno use radiation and you can see which type if you follow the updates closely. (That's based on reading here, not personal experience.)

A reminder for the development team that this display and feature needs to be improved. 1. Are radiation types depend on wich Xeno race you fight or the type of radiation for each xenorace is chosen randomly in each individual game (each new game the same xenorace will have the same radiation type or it will vary)? How to determine that type in game? 2. If radiation type is constant for specific xenorace how to determine what is the type of it in game or maybe you give list of races and type of radiation they have?

It's all good. To be honest there's so much I'm learning anyway I'm just gonna log radiation off for future learning.

Yes, it does increase critical damage.

Cory Trese Brutus Aurelius Sorry, for the necro, but could you clarify? Are you saying that when a "radiation attack" is made, that the % chance to make a critical hit is increased (i.e. 20%->25% chance)? Or the crit damage multiplier is increased (i.e. 1.5x->2x damage)? Does this mean then that only some % of attacks have radiation associated with them?

..... Does this mean then that only some % of attacks have radiation associated with them? I don't think so. Attacks (by friendly ships) have Radiation associated with them when the ship has some sort of upgrade that confers a +X (Radiation type) Dmg bonus. For example, the bonuses conferred by the Pirate Crew upgrade (one of my favorites) include +10 Alpha Dmg and +10 Beta Dmg.
